Hello everyone! We are Neko Teatro, a professional theatre company passionate about telling unique and exciting stories. This summer, we are honoured to have been selected to take part in the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival 24, and we need your help to make this amazing opportunity a reality.
What is the Fringe Festival?
The Fringe Festival is one of the world's largest and most respected performing arts festivals, held annually in Edinburgh, Scotland. This festival is a global platform where artists from all over the world present their most innovative and creative work. Participating in the Fringe will allow us to premiere our piece Masa Madre on an international stage and connect with a diverse audience.
For the Fringe Festival 2024, we have prepared a special work entitled Masa Madre, a production of Neko Teatro that explores the conflict between modernity and tradition.
Synopsis of Masa Madre
In a world increasingly dominated by uniformity, the essence of tradition and authenticity struggles to survive. This is precisely the dilemma facing Consuelo, the regent of Masa Madre, a bakery with a history going back generations, when her grandmother established it as the heart of social life in the picturesque village of Jarona.
Today, however, this heritage is threatened by an unrelenting force: tourism. Jarona's recent designation as One of the most beautiful towns in Spain has unleashed a flood of visitors eager to experience Spanish rural life. This tourist boom has had an adverse effect on businesses like Masa Madre, as the proliferation of large chain stores threatens to choke local family businesses.
For Consuelo, the dilemma is heartbreakingly clear: to give in to the pressure of change and transform **Masa Madre* into another anonymous branch of a commercial chain, or to resist and preserve both her grandmother's legacy and her own identity as a traditional baker?
The value of Masa Madre
Masa Madre is more than just a play; it is a call to reflect on the value of tradition in an increasingly homogenised world. Through a moving narrative and endearing characters, Neko Teatro invites audiences to immerse themselves in the complexities of this universal conflict between modernity and tradition.
Why do we need your help?
Participating in the Fringe Festival is an amazing opportunity, but it also comes with significant expenses: transport, accommodation, production materials, venue hire, etc. We are launching this crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to cover part of the costs of the project to bring Masa Madre to the stage of the Fringe Festival.
