STATED VALUES (2007–2024):
"Rediscovering History: A photographic journey through the Barcelona Post Office building".
Photographing a place very close to my heart. My approach is intimate and conceptual, capturing unique and surprising spaces where people have worked since 1929. The people who work there have adapted to evolving needs, particularly since the 1990s, when we entered the digital era at a rapid pace.
Graphic documentation, architectural and anthropological visual analysis.
Initially, the idea was to portray the dismantling of the Telégrafos area, culminating in a distinct visual narrative, adding images of empty spaces created with ambient light entering through the building's large windows—evocative, sentimental, and sensual.
The title of this work is from a product from the last century of *Correos *, they were objects of great economic value sent in wooden boxes tied with ropes sealed with wax.
Hence the title, giving value to the place, the objects, and the people. From a distance in time, "Declared Values" is a work of reflection on historical photography.
This photo book is a work to preserve the history of our communication in the last century.

Who I am
I am Rosa Franco Mendoza, a photographer; for over eighteen years, I have been photographing the Main Post Office building in Barcelona, with the necessary permits.
I have been accompanied by my professors at the UPC and now friends, Carles Mitjá, Toni Bover, and Moritz Neünuller.
By my professors and friends from IEFC, Noelia Pérez Sández, Roger Grassas, J.M. Llobet, and Alex Llovet.
What they say about me
● My friend Silvia Omedes, graphic editor and director of the PSV Foundation since 2001. She has supported me for 10 years, editing my work and advising me on how to manage production on various occasions.
*"...giving value to the high-quality, long-standing professional and personal project surrounding the Correos building, an emblematic, singular, and unique building in the city of Barcelona, and the place where she has also worked for many years. Her connection with the building is rooted in her own professional experience. Rosa knows every corner, room, and nook of it, as well as every texture, light, and color it houses. This collection of beautiful images, imbued with melancholy, for what the building was and will never be again, is a story of love and admiration. Her project has been carefully, delicately, and slowly developed year after year, day after day. Faced with its imminent final dismantling, which in turn marks the end of an era, Rosa has gathered and edited all the material she produced to create a unique and unrepeatable body of photographic work. In addition to her qualities as a documentary photographer, always rigorous and respectful of the subjects she addresses, delicate and poetic in her compositions, one could say that the author has grown in this project. and come to develop a life project. Declared Values, its title, is an ode to her own process as a photographer and to her life, deserving of professional recognition. That is why, through this letter, I recommend Rosa.

● My university professor and friend Carles Mijtà
When Rosa asked me to contribute a text to her work “Declared Values”, I couldn't help but go back many years, when I met her as a student at the UPC's Center for Image and Multimedia Technology, on the Terrassa campus. Rosa, no matter how difficult it was to learn what I was teaching at the time in the Bachelor's Degree in Photography and Digital Creation, always showed the strength of someone who truly wants something. With the will not only to learn, but also to understand.
Someone who, although newly arrived in the field of photography and already with a previous professional career, delved without hesitation into all aspects of photography, whether technical, historical, or aesthetic.
Over time, her idea of giving visibility to the spaces that were hidden behind her usual workplace took shape in her final degree project, “Spaces in Time.” Some images and others that now take the form of a book. Images that, while they might show sadness for a past that will never return, due to the obsolescence of some technologies, are presented to us as places occupied by the lives of those who had worked there.
Even without human presence, one can imagine the hands of those who pressed buttons, opened and closed switches, sorted envelopes and packages, filed, repaired, maintained, and ultimately, made communication between people possible.
The book format allows for an organized reading of the images and a comprehensive whole that gives solidity to the patient work of years of taking images, of insistence in overcoming difficulties in obtaining permission, of selection and editing, of image processing, and of constructing the object image, which is a book.
Returning to the images shown here, we can ask ourselves: how many desires, longings, news, and personal vicissitudes have not passed through those cables, have not at some point rested in those closets, do not somehow still reside in files, archives? And in the very essence of the building?
I'd also like to say something about words, their meaning, and some of the paradoxes they sometimes lead us to. "Spaces," "Time," "Values," and "Forgotten." Different meanings, but all of them connected in the book that Rosa now encourages us to leaf through in order to learn and understand. A book that brings us closer to a past that was once, and for many, the present and also represented their future. A testament to the infinite loop that constitutes past, present, and future. Spaces, times, and values that will never be forgotten, thanks to this patient, meticulous, and also beautiful work, because beauty is often shown in how things are done and not so much in what is done.*
Carles Mitjá
I need you to share the project with other people who are also part of this history of communication and are interested in the story of photography and historical heritage.
Thank you all so much for your interest and suppor
THANK YOU!
