[NO-RES], vida i mort d'un espai en tres actes

THE MOVIE

[NO-RES] is a movie project about gentrification. This documentary narrates the chronicle of the last days in the life of Colonia Castells, one of the few traditionally manufacturing quarters in Barcelona, which is now being demolished. An entire, unusual microcosm of relationships will be buried, along with an intensely human way of understanding urban areas by their pleasant inhabitants. In an observational way, we will experience three moments in this area, matching the end of a daily routine which has survived unaltered throughout a whole century. These moments will be the following:

III. Death: Destruction of the Quarter

WORK in PROGRESS


[NO-RES] is not just a documentary – it is a project we want to share, beginning from the creative process or work in progress. Due to the topic we are dealing with, gentrification, and its being freely distributed in the Internet as well as in the cinemas (under a Creative Commons license), we want to come closer from the beginning to anyone who is interested in the project, in order to explain the creative process and share opinions and ideas about gentrification, free culture and non-fiction movies, the three main pillars defining [No-Res]. We aim to create a community, a critical mass, through our website, the social networks and a series of events throughout Spain and abroad. We have held presentations in Barcelona and Madrid. We will soon travel to Zaragoza, Tenerife, Pamplona, Toronto, Montreal and New York. We go for Creative Commons licenses, among other reasons, because we want this movie to flow through the web with no restrictions, and to reach the maximum number of people. WHO WE ARE 

[NO-RES] is produced by METROMUSTER. Xavier Artigas, a 30-year-old sociologist and producer, established this standalone production company in 2003 in order to experiment with art, sociology and politics. At present, we have just a clear purpose — that of producing non-fiction movies under Creative Commons licenses. Further information can be found in our website

[No-Res] is made by Xavier Artigas (producer, director of photography, and executive producer), Ana Castañosa (executive producer and journalist), Blanca Esteller (production manager), Meritxell Colell (link editor), Daniel Bobadilla (webmaster), and Daniel Lacasa (audio stuff).



PROJECT STATUS


We have been recording images of Colonia Castells, its people and its progressive demolition since May 2010. These images are already being shown in the presentations we offer, within the framework of what we call Work in Progress.
We are now in the middle of editing work. We will start audio editing at the end of May. We estimate the whole work will be finished (that is, the projection of the movie in theaters and through the web) in Fall 2011.

DEFINED PURPOSE 

[NO-RES] is an observational documentary and, therefore, the image and sound good quality is fundamental. We want to reach €2000 through Verkami to pay the sound editor salary, who will take care of audio post-production with extreme attention. The dramatic and evocative treatment of sound is essential. Thanks to the aid of IDEC, Pompeu Fabra University, we already have a Protools (sound post-production software) and editing room so, with this fund, we will pay the audio editor.
