LAS CHICAS DEL CORO is a shiny musical (and it's not just the sequin) by Ferran Gonzàlez (la voz de Hércules) and Las Fernandas (Javier Prados y Joan López Santos… you might know them from Grindr) directed by Rubén Yuste (you've probably seen him in every musical, but this one).
A musical comedy with one actress ( Esther Peñas ) and five actors (or so they say). And everything shines, everything. Leaving behind Priscilla, Kinky Boots or Dreamgirls; it's time for LAS CHICAS DEL CORO.
Original music by Ferran Gonzàlez (from Pegados, un musical diferente ) played live by the live performers that play them live. And yeah, we have live music, an eighteen instrument orchestra, all in one keyboard, played by our piano lady (and she will play live, if she's not busy).
SINOPSIS
LAS CHICAS DEL CORO tells us the story of lil' Simba, a little lion, destined to get the crown... oh, no, that's another musical. LAS CHICAS DEL CORO tells us, now, the story of Cristal, Dina and Leo, three drag queens that compete in a talent competition with a goal: find a spot in the musical industry (never seen before, we know). on the way they will have to become the chorus girls of an oldfashioned 80's diva, Blanca Tonegra, that nobody remembers; so they start touring with her.
Full on telenovela vibes. The evil Sr. Martín, the manager, will do ANYTHING to get fame and money
Sexual orientation, gender identity y and being truthful to who you are will be the key in a story where skirts, lies and pride mix with heels, humor and glitter. Don't miss it!
ORIGINS
2014 on a little sofa that we were sharing in a Harlem apartment the idea came and we started writing the opening number, we wanted to do a musical. Life happened, we had our projects and no time to invest on this but suddenly they sat us in a plane, there was a pandemic and lockdown. It was the time to make a real script out of our idea
La sexual orientation and gender identity are still questioned and we still need to keep fighting to maintain what so many queer and, specially, trans women did for the LGTBI+ community.
