WHAT IS GRAVITY LAND

GRAVITY LAND is a 11 episode documentary about cosmology and astrophysics, with a strong scientific-humanistic spirit. Its content is structured around a single concept: gravity as the great engine of the universe and spacetime. It is the largest overview of relativity and cosmology ever produced in Spanish. (Probably in any language, actually...)

The project, which started in 2016, is FULLY FILMED and in its final post-production stages, which is why this crowdfunding campaign is taking place.

To explore this territory marked by gravity, the series has a new docufiction format: some characters with a life of their own, who act as narrative guides, have interviews and meetings with a huge array of specialists in gravity and cosmology. Among these interviews, incorporated into the narrative, we have the leading experts on cosmology and gravitation, both nationally and internationally, such as the 2017 Nobel Prize winner Kip Thorne (INTERSTELLAR's scientific advisor). Also, Heino Falcke, the director of the project which obtained in 2019 the first radio-image made of a black hole. Or even the well-known Russian cosmologist Alekséi Starobinsky.

OUR MAIN CHARACTERS

• Laura Alhambra: she is a radio and TV science journalist. Her mind, restless and dynamic, is always awake and ready. And her gaze, scrutinizing and deep within her, reveals that we find a woman with character, intelligent and with a cynical point. Her goal will be to develop a documentary series on gravity.

• Arturo Quintana: physicist, researcher at the Institute of Mathematics and Fundamental Physics at the CSIC and one of the leading international experts in Gravitational Waves. An intellectual, as well as a generous man and a great lover of music, especially jazz (he admires Miles Davis). He loves talking about his great passion: gravitational physics.

• Esmer-Alda: she's a young actress and conceptual artist who uses her body to insert herself into her own performances. You will not see her twice with the same hairstyle nor hair color: brunette, blonde, white-haired... she is trendy wherever she goes and leaves no one indifferent. Esmer-alda is sensitivity to the universe that surrounds her and to the one that she creates around her.

• Kolya: son of Bulgarian immigrants and pro hacker who turned into a physics and mathematics student. Kolya has Asperger syndrome and a Newton-level IQ. He is a sort of genius when numbers and calculations are involved. He won't say no to a challenge of any kind. His recent interest in cosmology has led him to feel pure fascination about gravity and the universe.

• Ángela Valdés: Ángela Valdés is a university professor and an important cosmologist. Deep-eyed and intelligent, she is capable of making anyone nervous. The mere presence of her inspires respect and authority wherever she is. Despite her imposing and mature character, Angela is young at heart. Angela doesn't believe in God. She only believes in gravity and Einstein: her prophet.

• Julio: freethinking hermit, isolated from the world living on the countryside next to the Ebro river. However, he is not an uninformed person. Introverted, thoughtful and intelligent, he speaks with only the necessary amount of words, with a poetic and somewhat mystical discourse. Julio studied theology, philosophy, mathematics, and physics. In this order. His two passions define him: philosophy and taking care of his bonsai. For some reason Arturo, his former teacher, nicknames him "the madman of bonsai."

The fates of Laura, Arturo, Esmer-alda, Kolya, Ángela and Julio will be connected on Thursday, February 11, 2016 when, simultaneously, all of them witness on TV the famous press conference offered from the LIGO laboratory (USA). Specifically when David Reitze confirms to humanity the first detection of gravitational waves. At that very moment, the lives of our protagonists will be entangled by the influence of gravity and will converge in the same search for scientific knowledge... and also for themselves.

OUR INTERVIEWED EXPERTS

In GRAVITY LAND we have the participation of more than 60 researchers and experts of the highest level both nationally and internationally. Including Nobel Prizes and living legends of cosmology. In addition, more than 30 renowned scientific institutions appear in a visible way.

With all this in mind, in this documentary we twist the limits between reality and fiction. In this way, real researchers will also become secondary characters in this series and will interact with our protagonists and their plots. For example, they will grant interviews to Laura Alhambra, they will advise the future Kolya as a promising researcher, or they will have interesting conversations with colleagues like Arturo or Angela, among many other situations.

ABOUT US

At the head of GRAVITY LAND, we are Carlos Barceló, physicist, Senior Scientist of the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalucia (IAA-CSIC) and former president of the Spanish Society of Gravity and Relativity (SEGRE). And Nacho Chueca, director of photography and producer of the audiovisual production company LIPSSYNC MEDIALAB. Carlos Barceló is the scientific director of the series, while Nacho Chueca is the stage director and director.

Behind GRAVITY LAND there is a reliable team of people who have extensive experience in creative and informative projects in the field of audiovisual production. Many of them specifically in projects involving modern physics and space sciences. Jesús Martínez, Amalia Chueca, José Ignacio Hernández, Claudio Bonaldi, Marta Andrés, Daniel Zafra or the designer María Lafuente are some of them. • LA VELOCIDAD DE NUESTROS PENSAMIENTOS (THE VELOCITY OF OUR THOUGHTS): Feature documentary tribute to LIGHT, i.e. ,the distant light that astrophysicists handle. Produced in 2014 - 2015, within the global project DECONSTRUCTING LIGHT on the 100th anniversary of Einstein's Theory of General Relativity.

• UPWARDS, UNDERSTANDING PLANET MARS: 2015. A dcumentary about Mars and the European mission Exomars.

• BIOSTIRLING 4 SKA, a new generation: 2016. A documentary about the great interferometry project that links a whole network of radio telescopes on a worldwide scale, SKA: Square Kilometer Array.

WHAT WILL WE DO WITH YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS?

As we have already mentioned, GRAVITY LAND is fully filmed and in an advanced post-production stage. The series has had diverse and generous funding packages, mainly from scientific centers, groups and projects, but we still need a final push to pay for the final post-production phase.

We need approximately 12000 euros to finance this last period of editing, sound mixing and the full integration of special effects and augmented reality in all chapters. A basic breakdown of these expenses would be as follows:

• 57% editing and sound mixing in AURALSOUND.

• 16.4% image post-production, VFX, various infographics and 4K mastering.

• 18.8% maintenance of human equipment.

• 7.8% promotion, premieres and start-up actions.

This crowdfunding campaign will be our last source of funding. If the campaign prospers properly, we will be able to finish the complete series in just a few months, within this year 2021 We only ask you for a final push, we will thank you for life!

IMPORTANT: The money is only withdrawn from your contributions after the 40 days of the campaign and if it is a success. In no case will you lose the money. On the contrary, you will win a series and some nice rewards... :)

REWARDS

Once the crowdfunding campaign is finished (understanding that successfully...!), The post-production tasks that we have to execute will take us around 7-8 months. In that period we estimate to finish the montage of the 11 episodes including all the elements and final polishing of the post-production. We already have advanced versions of all the episodes awaiting the final polish.

The rewards will be distributed once the assembly of all the chapters is completely finished, since some of them implies access to the complete series. We estimate that this will happen by the end of 2021, so the rewards can even become a good Christmas gift (with personalized greeting included...!)

We are committed to answering all kinds of questions regarding the previews and the sizes or models of the t-shirts.

What will we do if we go beyond the limit?

-If we reach 15000 euros, we will expand the series with ONE more episode about the history and structures of the universe.

-If we reach 20000 euros, we will expand the series with TWO more episodes: another about black holes + history and structures of the universe.

SCHEDULED CALENDAR

This crowdfunding campaign begins on Monday, April 26, and ends on Thursday, June 3, 2021.

Finishing the post-production phase is scheduled for the end of 2021. As mentioned above, the premières in the cities of MADRID, BARCELONA, VALENCIA, BILBAO and GRANADA will take place within that period.

The rewards will be sent from Fall 2021 to Spring 2022.

How can I pay?

In Verkami you can contribute with credit cards: VISA, VISA ELECTRON, MASTERCARD and MAESTRO. Furthermore it is also possible with BIZUM as an alternative method. And it is valid worldwide. So, there is no problem whether you live in Spain or abroad! ;)

Do you send the rewards if I live outside of Spain?

Of course! If you live outside of Spain and we have to physically send you something, there is no problem at all. In addition to your contribution to the merchandising reward (30€), you must also select the reward of 13€ for shipping costs abroad. Unless you get filled with determination and excitement and select the highest rewards. In that case, we will make sure you receive the rewards as fast and safe as possible! No patrons are left without their rewards! :)

(International shipping costs only affect the Series + merchandising reward for 30€ and the Patron reward for 100€)

How do I choose which city or in which première session?

We will send you an email with all the information about the day, time and venue of the première as soon as we know. Our planning and wish is for it to be during autumn 2021. But we do not dare to give a specific date for the première nor the number of people available in every screening due to the situation caused by covid. We are very sorry for that, but we will solve it as soon as possible.

What sizes and t-shirt models will be available?

These promotions are usually very standard in terms of sizes. The t-shirts are made of cotton and medium size. We will try to make more sizes available to make them look great, since their designs are wonderful.

When will we be able to watch this documentary?

If all goes well and on schedule, we hope that by the end of the year it will be ready to be enjoyed with a good box full of popcorn, a sofa and a blanket. However, the emission could be delayed up to the first months of 2022.

How are we going to be provided those online episodes? Will they only be available during a period of time or forever?

The commitment we acquire through crowdfunding is to provide private links for viewing the entire series (we have several options for the video-on-demand platform. But this decision will be made later). So, these links will be active for a minimum of 6 months from their activation. Once the crowdfunding is finished, we will keep the list with the emails of the contributors. And when we finish GRAVITY LAND, we will send you your private link and its date of activation. It is also likely that watching our series can be guaranteed to our patrons using free coupons via this potential video-on-demand platform.
