What’s The Posttraumatic?

The Posttraumatic is a newspaper created by creative minds and artists with the common goal of thinking about how we consume information.

The majority of the pieces are in English and Spanish, although there are some in Catalan too.

Why a newspaper? We believe that a newspaper is an important link between our social reality (built over the centuries by three-headed monsters and the occasional fairy godmother) and the individuals who live in it, because it is an essential communication element and because its content is a fucking drama almost always

When Ulrich Beck, a literate man, assures us that “the media does not respond to the inspiration of the enlightenment but to that of the market and capital” we can only read the news with a distrustful and defenseless frown. Uncle Sam manipulates us to his likings and we satisfy our appetites by feasting on his words as if they were cocaine-coated cookies that only serve to fatten the need to win over arguments at our neighbor’s dinner-table conversations. We do not know if the information we swallow is invented, bought, if they are news clippings curated by a 4channer´s paranoid imagination, or if it is an objective, absolute, eternal truth.

The newspaper is a very common object around us that needs to be reviewed and, the one that you have in your hands, although it does not pretend to be ideal, intends to be a breath of fresh air.

Based on these fatalistic, dramatic and somewhat depressing theories on news and their consumption, 39 artists were contacted and each one was granted with a space, a sort of an article, to do whatever they wanted with it. It has not been intended to generate any specific ideological discourse and there is no gift flag.

The concept of the newspaper has served us as a starting point but we don’t know if we would know how to define the result. Any description could seem reductionist, so we are going to limit ourself to saying that it is the outcome of an experiment and, although this description is unsatisfying, it is the only one that we dare to give.

Who are we?

This is an initiative by Octavi Serra, who has been in charge of teaming up this amazing group of artists to rethink and wonder about how we consume information nowadays.

Jan Vormann and Daniela Hermosilla quickly joined in through their Greta Rusttt project as newspaper editors. Jan Vormann has crafted strange communication strategies, like the videos we have been releasing.

Neus Masdeu and Aina Canyelles joined in the project later to organize things a little bit, and improve consciously and with a firm determination.

Finally, Victoria Rivers jumped in the project to give us some moral support, experience and a communicative brain.

Where will your donations go?

Your donations will be the ones that will fund the first edition and that will legitimate the work of everybody involved in it.

We’ve adjusted the production fees and profit margins as much as we can, being responsible for the risk of not being able to reach our first goal, but we trust that we will edit The Posttraumatic as the collective artistic and activist creation that it is.

We want to bring The Posttraumatic to live, now and in the future; therefore, once the first milestone is reached, the rest of the donations will be destined to fund the next edition.

The goal of this Verkami is that the work performed by the artists and the The Posttraumatic team is paid. Thanks to your support, this artistic project will see the light.

OUR IDEAL GOAL IS TO REACH UP TO 10,000€ IN DONATIONS

The 4,000€ milestone will be destined to the production and the artist fees. From that quantity on, the money will be destined to the second edition and to pay everybody that has helped in this project, which would be nice.

If we get to 10,000€ we believe that The Posttraumatic would be in safe flying mode.

The rewards will be delivered during April and May.
