Caminar will be a photobook product of a pilgrimage in the southern Peruvian Andes, through the regions of Cusco, Apurímac and Ayacucho. This publication has the purpose of showing the reader and observer the art of walking, walking as a philosophy of life.
During 30 days and 500 kilometers, this project will focus its attention on documenting with photographs the impressive landscape diversity of the Andes, its roads and its cultures. We will travel the Qhapaq Ñan -the Andean path of wisdom- inheritance of the most important pre-Columbian civilizations in the region, such as the Inca, Chanka and Wari cultures.
The * Qhapaq Ñan * is a network of roads of more than 60 thousand kilometers long that united the Andes and connected various production, administrative and ceremonial centers. It spans the territories of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, and constitutes an invaluable expression of how our ancestors organized and planned the vital workforce for the development and unification of Andean cultures.
We will visit more than 20 archaeological centers and more than 50 communities along this stretch of the Qhapaq Ñan and we will collect testimonies from local community members sharing words about the importance of walking for their daily and spiritual lives. These testimonials will be documented in the photobook.
