SERRES - Reportage of a journey through sketching

THE PROJECT

The aim of this project is to publish a picture book that recounts my experiences lived as a volunteer with refugees in the north of Greece.

A trip around central Macedonia where I volunteered with the NGO Lifting Hands International with Yazidi refugees and visited the cities of the region. Residents come from northern Iraq and the Sinjar region. Currently, part of the Yazidi community is relocated in this placement after the 2014 Genocide by ISIS.

As an Urban Sketcher, I began to create a diary to document this project in an illustrative format. In this book, I manifest my experiences, the people I met (volunteers, refugees, locals, and so on), and places visited.

Portraits, landscapes, sketches, and illustrations set up the graphic appearance of this book that, as a visual report, I intend to publish.

Most of these works were made out of on-location in concrete time.

THE EDITION

Characteristics: Edited both in Spanish and in English / Dimensions 21x21 cms. / 96 pages / Hard cover / Matte coated paper 130 gr. / Printed in Spain.

The Refugee Center is the space where refugees are supported by education and healing programs by LHI, located 100 meters from the Serres refugee camp.

Print S2 'CityZen's trees´

Next to the walls and the Byzantine Acropolis of Serres, we find the CityZen. A charming place where they serve food and drinks and from where you can see the whole city. These two stunning trees crown the place.

Print S3 'The Welcome'

This is the friendly message that is found at the entrance of the Refugee Centre and that welcomes everyone who comes to no matter where you come from.

Limited editions are available with the book or in a special pack.

IMPORTANT: Sendings to the outside of Spain must be included the international shipping costs.

If you do not purchase international shipping cost, I will not be able to make the shipments.

HOW CONTRIBUTIONS WILL BE USED FOR?

Funds raised will go to cover the costs of publishing the book 'Serres'. These expenses include copyright, layout, editing, and printing.

It also includes the production costs of other rewards such as prints and handling costs of all rewards, Verkami fees, taxes, and VAT.

IMPORTANT
15% income will be bestowed for a donation of PPE material for the NGO Lifting Hands International.

WHO I AM

I'm Joss López and I a Visual Artivist - What is this?

Artivism is an acronym formed by combining the words activist and artist meaning of 'art with explicit social content'.

Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts specialized in Animation and Design at Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain.

My practice and experience have made me explore ways using different artistic disciplines such as Illustration, Animation, Painting, Sculpture, Design, and Photography.

I am fascinated by what my eyes see and the behavior of the "moment" to capture it in its time. As Urban Sketcher I show the world drawing by drawing as a visual report.

I lived for nearly 4 years in the UK, where I developed my practice as an artist in residence at The Arches Studios. A creative and collective space where I developed new artistic creation techniques.

Creator of Life Drawing LAB (LD-Lab), a project to promote and improve drawing capabilities through natural drawing.

In addition to collaborating with TodoArt13, a theatre and dance company.

After getting involved and developing an educational art project, which uses Arts as a vehicle for communication in Greece I came back to Spain to edit this project.

CALENDAR

This campaign will end in mid-November. Provided the current situation does not affect the printing service (problems of supply of paper, ink, transport, etc). In these uncertain times giving an exact date is quite risky.

Print proofs are expected to be ready in early December thus the books would be ready to get shipped to patrons in late December or early January.

• October 1st crowdfunding is activated.
• The crowdfunding campaign ends in mid-November.
• End of November printing tests begin.
• End of December books and rewards are shipped.
