Photo exhibition: Urban scars under the mask

In these pandemic months I have documented stories that I want to be recorded and disseminated despite the extremely precarious situations of the journalistic, cultural and information sector.

I need you to help me carry out this project. The goal of this crowdfunding campaign is to gather enough to create the photographic exhibition entitled Urban scars under the mask, a proposal already selected to be exhibited in the International Biennial of Photography Olot from 31 July to 29 August 2020

WHAT

Urban scars under the mask is the title of a photojournalistic research on covid and the values ​​of neoliberalism in times of gentrification, of freedom linked to a feeling of fear and full of bad bugs and negative influences. It is also a vision of the misfits, those antiheroes who thanks to not getting lost marked the path of solidarity but because these stories can be told now you have to keep an eye on the rewards, I hope you like them.

WHEN

From the beginning of the confinement by Covid-19. The work is concentrated in Hospitalet de Llobregat in the context of the events of the daily news and at the same time evolves into a participatory and author documentary project

WHY

This project was born out of the need to respond to the political incapacity of Europe, to the institutional censorship and infantilization that we have suffered as photojournalists in these months. It is a deep documentation of the pandemic. It is a reaction to the imprecise treatment of the international press, of the good and the generous not visible. It also observes the cracks of neoliberalism and wants to toast for those who left and also for those who are born. Potential patrons allow moving forward with these investigations. Reflecting for the public in a free and independent way will be our victory

What will I use your contributions to?

The amount raised through this campaign will go entirely to pay the printings and production costs of the photographs included in the exhibitions and the cost of the rewards to the patrons.

What is the Olot International Biennial of Photography?

The Olot Biennial is the place where sharing it thanks to whoever creates photographic images, Spanish and international photography, long-standing professionals, and emerging artists come together to share, discuss and show images about the world we live in, and I hope, how to transform it.

I want to share with you these months of hard work and for me, it is an honor that you take these photographs home.

The idea is to expose in the 20 meters of the wall that I have available. But also that the exhibition will be itinerant, that will be exhibited in at least three spaces in different countries and that a photobook will be produced within a year.

Who I am

My name is Gian Marco Benedetto (SP, Italy 1986). I am a Barcelona based photojournalist, I work on daily news and long term projects. I am a member of the College of Journalists of Catalonia and a collaborating photographer for international agencies. I have published in Abc news, L'Espresso, El Pais, La Vanguardia, Europa press, el Faro de Vigo, Expansión, El Periodico, La Razon, among others. Graduated in law (Bocconi, Milano), after specializing in gonzo journalism (Lacoonte) I studied photojournalism and documentary photography (IEFC, Barcelona).

I feel the urge to tell, as a freelance photographer, stories focused on the human rights of the powerless of the modern world.

Scheduled schedule

The Olot festival begins on July 31, 2020, and ends on August 29. Starting September 15, it is estimated that I will be able to start handing out the rewards.
