Hidden Stories

The goal of this project is the creation of a high quality photography book, HIDDEN STORIES, that contributes to the conservation of nature.

The protagonists of the book are various conservation stories, often unknown, that are happening now and to which we can often contribute to our actions and habits.

This book will show a novel approach to the traditional photography book and, through a surprising and original format, will involve the reader in an active decision-making process that will lead him to discover (if he/she so wishes) the truth that lies behind various threats to nature and its underlying conservation stories.

Totally new format in a book of this type and that will be kept secret until the end.

Who I am

Joan de la Malla is a biologist and a freelance photographer focused in nature, local communities and the environment as well as a biologist, specialised in organisms and systems. At present he is devoting his efforts to conservation topics by working with national and international entities helping to raise awareness of the vital work being undertaken to safeguard the future of endangered species and their habitats. He regularly publishes his images in prestigious national and international media and his images have received some of the most important nature photography awards in the world, including a first prize in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year.

Joan is a member of the two most prestigious conservation photography organizations in the world. He is a fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers (an elite group of the world’s top wildlife, nature and culture photographers who, in addition to displaying remarkable photographic skills, have each demonstrated a deep commitment to conservation efforts around the globe). He also contributes with his images to the Photographers Against Wildlife Crime initiative: An international group of award winning photographers who have joined forces to use their powerful and iconic images to help bring an end to the illegal wildlife trade

To what will I allocate your contributions

It is a self-published book and for which I still do not have all the funds. With your generous contributions you will help bear a part of the production and creation costs of the book.

Why participate in the project

I have always felt a lot of respect for well-made photography books. Beyond the impression itself, for a book to come out well, it takes a lot of work and effort and the involvement of many professionals to ensure an edition, texts and a aesthetic carefully well made. The higher the collection in this phase the more resources can be allocated to the design, editing, revision of texts, translation, etc ... In addition, 10% of all the benefits of the book will go to conservation projects, so, the more we collect the better.

Participating in this phase you will benefit from a discount in the book regarding the final price. I can send it to you personally dedicated and your name will appear as patron of a cultural and conservation project.

Planned calendar

The book is estimated to be finished by mid-April 2020. At the beginning of May, shipments will begin.
