TONALLI, Aztec Soul – New Show by Raqs Sahira

TONALLI, AZTEC SOUL

We are working on our new project “Tonalli, Aztec Soul”, a dance show about the Mictlan, the underworld of the Mexica culture. Throughout our dance, based on the oriental language, music, and theater, our goal is to introduce this very essential part of the pre-Hispanic Mexica culture, its richness in symbology, and its special vision of death.

The performance will reflect the journey the dead executed in order to free their soul: their “Tonalli”. We will go down this journey alongside the Papantzin princess, whose goal will be to go across the nine Mictlan regions, inhabited by the Aztec gods.

The date of the show is on July 7, 2019 in SAT! Teatre de Barcelona

RAQS SAHIRA ¿WHO ARE WE?

We are an Arabic dance company created and directed by the international dancer and master Gitza Krotzsch. The company’s objective is to offer a rich, wide, and creative vision of dance.

We believe in dance as a medium to express oneself artistically, personally and socially, and beyond entertainment. For this reason, we create thematic shows based in oriental language, and always focused to a social or historical cause.

The name, “Raqs Sahira”, means “magical dance”, as magic is what we feel when dancing.

“I live dance and not just as an artistic expression, but also as a way of communication and individual encounter; learning throughout the body and with the body to feel and manifest from the deepest within myself: the feelings.”

The dancers who are a part of this adventure are: Alba Millanes, Alba Tejada, Alexa Landaverde, Claire Thomas, Cristina Catalán, Erika Di Vittorio, Esther Villa, Gemma Patricio, Kitiara, Irene Membrives, Lara Sánchez, Nuria Moro, Ruth Carralero, Sandra Manzanera, Steffany Medina and Susana Gil.

FOR WHICH PURPOSE WILL WE ALLOCATE YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS ?

The money we would obtain thanks to the contribution of our sponsors will be used exclusively to the funding of the show.

Even though our objective is to gather 1 500 €, the company shows historically have a 4 500 € estimate, which are allocated for dressing, set design, video and photography, communication and marketing, rehearsals and theater rent.

We fund our shows mostly with the money collected from the ticket sales. We also organize small events throughout the year to collect funds and have some sponsors at our disposal. However, these sources of incomes are not enough.

This is why we decided to throw a verkami campaign: to guarantee the funding at 100% for the show.

EXPECTED CALENDAR

The show, “Tonalli, Aztec Soul” (Tonalli, alma azteca), will take place on Sunday 7 July at 7 p.m. in SAT! teatre de Barcelona (Neopàtria, 54). We will send your tickets via email.

You will be able to assist to one of the programmed rehearsals before the day of the show (consult details in the Rewards section): 11, 16, 18, 25, and 30 June, or 2 and 6 July.

The workshops with the Sahiras will take place along the months of July and September (consult details in the Rewards section).

The DVDs (in spanish) and the photos will be sent as soon as your editing is complete. The photos will very likely be sent along July, and the DVDs in September.
