WHO WE ARE

Tarifa and Tangier African Film Festival – FCAT is an independent film festival, organised by the non-profit NGO Al Tarab.

The FCAT promotes African film in Spain and Latin America, and its main goal is to improve mutual understanding among people and cultures, as well as to support the development of African film industries.

2019 FCAT EDITION

Tarifa and Tangier African Film Festival – FCAT is about to celebrate its 16th edition. The event has become a key reference for accessing African films in the Spanish-speaking world, and in 2019 the FCAT will continue putting the best of African cinemas on the map.

The Ugandan singer Jaqee is the protagonist of the poster of this 16th edition, which will take place simultaneously in Tarifa (Spain) and Tangier (Morocco) from April 26th to May 4th, 2019. The programme of this unique cultural event explores important topics such as the African diasporas, black resistance, human rights and migration, as well as identity and black feminism, inviting audiences to critical reflection and debate.

The 2019 FCAT edition will show more than 60 movies, representing 20 African countries and 3 Latin American countries. This year, the festival will be focused on the American continent, presenting some of the most relevant and latest Latin American movies made by African descendants.

The aim of the Festival is to keep on promoting diversity and cultural dialogue between Europe and Africa, and so in this upcoming edition the festival will expand its activities to other areas, such as Chef Chaouen and Tetuan in Morocco, as well as other towns of the Cadiz province in Spain.

REWARDS

Tarifa and Tangier are known to be the cities of wind and so we try to make these wind energies favourable. Nevertheless, winds are not always enough to go forward. This is why we’re asking for help: thanks to your solidarity, we know we will be able to make it! As you support us, we will honour you with bags, T-shirts, catalogue copies, posters, festival passes, etc.

CONTRIBUTION

Your contribution will help us bring movie directors to Tarifa and Tangier, covering their trip costs and full-board accommodation.

At the same time, your contribution will be a significant support to set up the screening venues. As you might know, in our festival we do not count with conventional movie theatres, so every year we have to overcome these limitations by renting screening and sound systems.
