We are Döxa: a melodic / symphonic metal band from Madrid that was founded in 2008. The band has gone through very different stages. Between 2008 and 2010 we were just a studio project. Between 2010 and 2011 we were briefly re-established as a band. We went back to being simply a studio project between 2012 and 2016 and since then, we have definitely continued as a band.
Our music is a mixture of many influences and styles, mainly (but not exclusively) metal. We have released three albums: "Once ... and for All" (2010), "Delendha est Cartago" (2013) and "Lust For Wonder" (2017), the latter released internationally with the record label Pitch Black Records. Right now, we are about to release our fourth studio album, as an independent band again. And that's where this crowdfunding project fits in.
Our fourth studio album has been already recorded, mixed and mastered by our customary producer, the great Dani G. (Darksun, Last Days of Eden) at his Dynamita Studios in Lugones (Asturias). Therefore, the album will be released in the coming weeks and you will be able to enjoy it without any pre-requisites.
The reason why we appeal to you is different. This album is not like the previous ones. We have put into it certain ideas, concepts and experiences that we would like to explain and tell you guys in detail so that you can understand the why's and what's. In order to do so, we need a much larger booklet, and larger inlays as well. That is only possible if we make a special edition of this fourth studio album. And that special edition is what we want to offer you in this crowdfunding. A three layer digipack edition, with a 20 pages inner booklet. Of course, it is much more expensive to manufacture than the jewel case format that we had always used.
We are sure that this fourth album deserves a special edition and this is the way that seems most appropriate to launch it. This being the case, this project is basically a pre-sale of this special edition at a normal edition price and is aimed at those who still care about music in physical format: collectors, traditional music lovers, adventurers and idealists in general. To you!
"To Shambhala: A Pilgrimage of the Mind and Soul" is our first concep album ever, so atmospheres, texts and lyrics are more important than ever.
This fourth studio album is quite risky. The full title is in fact a bit weird: "To Shambhala: A Pilgrimage of the Mind and Soul".
When we say risky we mean that, although the essence of Döxa is still there, the record goes beyond the boundaries of our sound. It is a more modern album, with many influences from styles that before had not surfaced so clearly in our music, such as from atmospheric black metal, djent or progressive metal. Besides that, the imprint of some musical traditions of the Far East is very present in almost all the material. Furthermore: our friend and collaborator Fátima Santos has helped us in that sense, playing various oriental instruments such as Tibetan bowls and some percussions. But Fátima has not been the only guest musician, because we have counted with many high-profile ones: the tenor Matías Noisel, our own producer Dani G. and the marvellous Patricia Tapia (Mägo de Oz, KHY) who has recorded a full duet tune with or vocalist, Nane.
As for sound, we believe that thanks to Dani G. we have achieved the best sound that one of our records has ever had. We crave for sharing it with you!
For several oriental traditions Shambhala is a fabulous city, hidden in the deepest recesses of the Himalayas. A mysterious and sacred place whose exact location nobody knows. We have used it as a symbol of the miraculous and unattainable.
This album narrates the spiritual adventure of a person who one day, absolutely unable to withstand his daily life in a large city in the Western Hemisphere, abandons everything and goes on a trip to distant lands, in search for the answers to all those questions everybody has asked at least once. Who is that person? That's not important. It could be anyone. Even you. Therefore, because that's not important, we have nicknamed our protagonist simply "The Vagabond".
We had a lot of material prepared, but we have finally chosen ten songs. Each one is a different stage of the Vagabond's journey and almost all these stages take place in the Far East: India, China, Myanmmar, Japan or Indonesia. The Vagabond will meet strange characters, such as the Sage, the Geisha or the Witch. He will be tempted by the forces of darkness and tested by those of the Light. In spite of everything, hope will always push him forward.
As a guideline of all these adventures, the fears, fantasies and illusions of the Vagabond will always be present. What he feels and thinks in each moment. And his eagerness to understand the mentality and opinions of the people he finds, which are quite different from his western-like ones.
And does he find Shambhala at the end? Maybe ... But we're not going to tell you more here! 😉
It is always difficult to talk about the future, but we estimate that during the month of April -May at the latest- all the patrons will have their rewards because, as we say, the album is completely finished and the graphic material, which is the work of the great Daniel Alonso (Warcry and Last Days of Eden, among many others), it is completely done. If there is any deviation, we will work for it to be as short as possible.
Certainly, for manufacturing reasons it is possible that after the crowdfunding some units of the special edition or other rewards could be available but undoubtedly they will be much more expensive and difficult to obtain. So ... up to you! 😊
Furthermore, the digital edition of the album will be forwarded by e-mail to all the patrons that have it acknowledged within 48 hours accounting since the moment the minimum target of the campaign is reached. That is to say, the patrons will be able to enjoy the album before the release date in Spain, which is scheduled by very late March (no release date outside Spain is yet scheduled).
In the case of patrons who acquire the ticket for the presentation concert, they will also be able to choose to receive it physically in the We Rock Hall (Madrid) on April 13th.
Important: All the rewards include shipping within Spain, if applicable. For international shipping, it is mandatory to get the "International" additional reward, to cover the shipping expenses abroad (regardless of the country).
To all the patrons, regardless of their contribution and the outcome of the project, we will send by email two songs of the album in advance, as well as a discount voucher of 25% for our online store as a token of appreciation. These vouchers will be valid from the day following the presentation gig (April 13) until December 31, 2019, and could be used in any purchase that the patron wishes, although they will not be cumulative with each other or with other discounts that we can offer.
50%: Physical production of the special edition of the album
25%: Merchandising production costs
15%: Packaging and shipping costs
10%: Verkami's fees, donation and other costs
Please note that this project does not cover all the cost we'll be incurring.
The Vagabond will soon be aware that the world, although different, is not much better ten thousand kilometers from his home. It remains an unjust and cruel place.
But we are all a little responsible for making things better and a simple gesture can sometimes make a difference. For that reason, we have decided that a part of the total amount that we can raise thanks to you (5%), will be donated to the Vicente Ferrer Foundation.
The work carried out by the Foundation in defense of the disfavoured in India is well known, but it never hurts to remember its website:
www.fundacionvicenteferrer.org
For a small project, like ours, social networks are very important. Not everything comes down to the economic issue. Pressing a simple button is equally useful and valuable. That is why we have included the following social media strech goals:
200 Shares in any Social Media via Gleam
If we manage the project to be shared at least 200 times, all patrons, regardless of their contribution, will also receive a pdf in Spanish with additional material of the album that will include, among other things, the translation of the lyrics and texts of the special edition, exclusive photos, additional information and more surprises. In addition, we will include the name of all the patrons together in the pdf with their chosen kind of reward.
We'll us the Gleam app to control and manage the Stretch. And, among all the people who had shared the project, we'll perform a raffle: 15 pick/necklaces, 25 Hamma keychain and 5 tickets for the presentation gig.
Please find here the Gleam link for the crowdfunding, so you can share (and thus, care!).
Página de Gleam del crowdfunding
1.600.-€: Signed postcard: If we reach €1,600, each one of the patrons who have chosen the Cautious Traveler reward or higher will also receive a postcard signed by the band, as a token of gratitude.
2.000.-€: Hamma keychains: If we reach €2,000 euros, we will make "hamma" figures of each of the members of the band and all the patrons who have chosen the reward Cautious Traveler or higher will receive at no additional cost an exclusive keychain of the Crowdfunding, with the figurine they prefer.
3,000.-€: Music Video: Now we're really talking! If we reach this amount, we will do a survey among all the patrons to know what is the song that you liked most of the album and we will make a completely professional music video of that song.
We are supported by:
And that's all, folks. Thank you for reading and... WE'LL MEET IN SHAMBHALA!
