What happens when the ítem thought to bring you more safety becomes your worst nightmare?

Our protagonist has a normal, plain life until the day he stumbles across something that will turn his world upside down. What is supposed to protect you can eat you up.

Safe is a socially-themed psychological thriller. Its intention is to open our eyes and demystify guns as a safety measure. During the last decades, we have sadly been witnessing tragedies like mass shootings in schools and public places, many times carried out by underage individuals who surprisingly had access to something sold as a “protection and self-defence object”. We want to show that owning a gun does not imply feeling safe.

This small idea has been shaped until becoming this professional cinematographic project. The plot will be narrated through images, without dialogues, to visually boost the story and to generate a more introspective outlook. It is therefore a quite interesting challenge to create. Our intention is that Safe reaches across borders to internationally raise awareness among viewers, thus aimed not only to collectives involved in this purpose, but also to a wider range of audiences.

GUILLERMO ARNAIZ ILLESCAS

Director: passionate, creative and with his mind always running wild with ideas. There was a spark in his head which caused a fire so massive it ended up in this short film’s script. For years he has been immersed in the cinematographic sector: he directed a webseries with his own production company, and has probably invested more time in watching movies than many would in their lifetime.

BEATRIZ ABASCAL

Assistant director: She can’t stand still and is ready to take on the world. After perfecting her knowledge and experience in the ESCAC (Cinema School of Barcelona), she has arrived to Madrid armed with good organization skills, serenity in moments of chaos and eager to show something different. Her field of work extends in publicity, short films and fashion films.

ÁNGEL LÓPEZ MIRANDA

Director of Photography: Professional in the audiovisual world with wide experience upon his shoulders, he jumps from the electric department to photography. He masters his training in the NIC, Cinema Institute of Madrid, and always carries a camera with him. His big ideas will highlight this project, being its power in the image. Before having even started shooting, Ángel has already visualized everything in his head. Besides videoclips and publicity, he has worked on several Spanish TV series, and is currently a part of the Terminator 6 team.

ALBA ENGEL

Art director: Creative and also with ample experience in creating sceneries in shootings. She also comes from the Cinema Institute of Madrid and, if you ask her, she can turn the Eden into hell’s seventh circle. Awake, confident about her work and always attentive to reflect in skin and bones what the authors of every story have encapsulated in their minds. She is currently working on the movie “9 Cafés”.

All of you who are reading this can bring Safe to life. Your contributions as patrons will serve to spread the message it deals with, and to pay for:

• Technical equipment: we want Safe to have a cinematographic style which allows it to go places. To achieve that, we will be using a*Sony FS7* camera. Lighting will also be a key factor, with the majority of the plot occurring in dark exteriors, giving it a play of shadows and colours that will resonate on their own. The renting of this equipment involves an elevated economic cost, thus here is where we need you the most.

• Production: during the shooting we will be needing transportation of the technical equipment to the different localizations, catering for the actors and team behind the screen, renting of spaces and art/atrezzo for the sets.

• Rewards for you!: part of the funding will help us set up the different prizes that will allow us to thank you for your faith in Safe. We want you to enjoy your contribution to the project!

Furthermore, the crowdfunding campaign entails certain expenses in taxes and management that will be covered with your donations.

We also remind you that, if you are a company and want to collaborate, your logo will have the possibility of appearing on the credits and other communication elements that conform the campaign.

If we reach the goal, we will be able to develop the project and cover all its needs, but… what if the budget is reached? If this was the case, we could invest in better equipment or discarded ideas due to lack of resources, in addition to creating new and exclusive rewards. So, bring it on!
