WHO WE ARE

We are Teiera, a self-publishing label based in Bologna (Italy) and Barcelona (Spain). We like comics, illustrations and any kind of visual language. We make hand-made monographic books and collective anthologies.

Teiera was born in March 2010 and in two years we have been publishing more than 15 books illustrated by Italian as well as international artists. We also had the chance to take part and promote our work in various festivals in Italy, Spain, France, Swiss and UK.

Teiera is formed by Cristina Spanò, Giulia Sagramola and Sarah Mazzetti, three young Italian illustrators who share the will to experiment and work together on new projects, in order to grow and develop our creative production.

OUR PROJECT

We want to release Pick-a-land, a stackable illustrated book addressed to children but certainly suitable for adults as well. The theme of the book are the Countries of the World, represented by their inhabitants: by playing with Pick-a-land you'll be able to imagine new countries and create new nationalities. The names of the countries are in English, so that the child can learn the words he is playing with.

Pick-a-land has the aim to make children play with the illustrations and the book as an object, and also to teach them diversity and multi-culture. We started to elaborate the project in January 2012, with the idea to do a Teiera project specifically addressed to children.

HOW IT'S DONE

Pick-a-land is a collection of 24 characters coming from different countries (Mexico, China, United States...) illustrated by Cristina, Giulia and Sarah.

The book is spiral-bounded: on the left side you will always have the name of a country, while on the right side you will have the illustration of the character coming from that country.

Pick-a-land is especially a game to make up imaginary lands: every word is divided in three horizontal bands, so that by flipping the pages the user can put the head of one character together with the bust and legs of the others, creating infinite combinations. By breaking down the character, you also brake down the name of his country and create new imaginary nationalities.

PRINTING DETAILS

Spiral bound, 64-page book, size 14,8x21 cm

4 colour print on 300 gr matte paper.

Edition of 500 copies.

DISTRIBUTION DETAILS

We will personally take care of the distribution, by handing the book to bookshops and selling it during fairs, comic festivals, diy markets and so on.

WHY HELPING US (BESIDE RECEIVING OUR GREAT REWARDS)

Our work with Teiera is not aimed to gain profit, we try to balance earnings and expenses, and reinvest extra money in new projects. The amount of money we ask for Pick-a-land will be used to cover the book's printing and distribution costs, and to produce the rewards we're giving to those who will help us.

ciao Nene, dovresti avere ricevuto la nostra email di updates un po' di settimane fa, in cui vi annunciavamo che i libri ci arriveranno per fine novembre e che effettueremo le spedizioni la prima settimana di dicembre, in modo che tutti voi possiate ricevere le vostre ricompense con un po' di anticipo rispetto al Natale. Hai già mandato il tuo indirizzo via email? Se non lo hai fatto ti chiediamo di provvedere, nel frattempo confermiamo queste tempistiche, non vediamo l'ora di ricevere i libri e iniziare a fare i pacchetti :) :) :)

Certamente conosciamo il Bestiario Universale del Professor Revillod e ci piace molto, il concetto del libro è lo stesso ma il tema e il risultato sono diversi.

Il Bestiario non è l'unico libro realizzato in questo modo, ma è diventato molto famoso, quindi viene facilmente in mente.

Ci siamo ispirate alle basi che stanno dietro a un genere di libri, quelli a fasce componibili e smontabili, che ci piace molto, anche per il gioco che si può creare con le parole.

Il tema dei Paesi e delle nazioni da inventare non ci sembrava ancora sviscerato in questa modalità e così abbiamo provato a fare la nostra versione.

Hola! Es verdad que una de nosotros (Cristina) vive en Barcelona, pero ya que el libro lo emprimimos en Italia todos los envios saliran desde Italia.

Seguro mas adelante, como por los otros libros, llevaremos muchas copias en España, pero estas copias llegaran luego de mucho tiempo y no todas de repente. Asi que no podemos confiar en esto, no seria correcto para la gente que ha partecipado y quiere aun partecipar a la campaña.

Desafortunatamente tambien nosotros de Teiera no llegamos a vernos fisicamente muy a menudo y esto no ayuda.

Llevar los libros en el avion tambien tiene un coste y en los 5 € que ponemos demas por el envio en el extranjero hay tambien el imbalaje y las recompensas.

Pero, como oferta, en el caso en que se compren dos libros el coste es de 15€ por libro y hay gastos incluidos.
