After the success obtained with the documentary short film "Searching for Dénia" (2017), semi-finalist in the "Festival de Cine de Los Angeles" and in the Official Selection in competition of the "Festival de Cine Spotlight de Austin", Texas and Spain at the "Los Angeles International Film Festival of San Rafael" and now semi-finalist at the "San Mauro International Film Festival"in Italy, I wanted to go a step further.
The Original Idea
From the beginning, the idea was always to portray not only the sunrise (what we see in "Searching for Dénia"), but also the central hours of the day in which the sun sweeps the contour of the coast, moments of the day when nature seems to freeze before the force of the sun. From there, at sunset, the most bucolic moment and in which some nooks and crannies of the bay show us a palette of colors worthy of being one of the best postcards on the planet.
This kind of trilogy, sunrise - noon - sunset, evolved in my thinking until I came across Manuel Sánchez Vázquez, a poet in love with the same beauty that leads me to portray this magnificent coast. After reading his recent publication "Clamor en el Crepúsculo" (2017), it became clear to me that the emotion contained therein and that passion in writing would be the perfect vehicle to reach the spectator and thus complete the work I started with "Searching for Dénia".
The documentary is born with the intention of travelling along the coast of Denia with Manuel Sánchez Vázquez, a poet in love with the nature of his bay, in which he inspires his poems, nourishing himself with the soul of the Mediterranean, his muse, his passion.
We walk along with the verses of his book "Clamor en el crepúsculo" (Clamour in the Twilight) through those places of geography that inspire his beautiful poems. An entire bucolic and romantic adventure, in which the visual poetry of the environment seduces us with that so attractive melancholy of the poet.
The documentary genre has always troubled me, starting from the university years, where I did my first work talking about the "Europeanisation of the Spanish education system".
Nature and poetry are one of the best exercises we can do to feel alive, to feel free and to try to understand our place in the world within the unstoppable rhythmic whirlwind in which we are submitted to every day, and that was an opportunity we could not pass up.
I have spent many years thinking about how to portray the Dénia that I love so much and I think the time has come to make it a reality and share with the spectator the sublime beauty of a place in the hands of one of the most inspired poets in this land. A perfect blend.
As you can see below there is a minimum figure that we need to reach in order to make the documentary with a minimum of artistic guarantees. Every audiovisual work, however small, always has unavoidable financial costs. The technical equipment will mean the greatest immersion, as well as everything related to audio; voice, recording studio, music licenses, composition.
If we reach that minimum, the ideal would be to be able to achieve that desired budget, which would not only allow us to distribute it, but would also allow us to rethink some of the scenes, at a higher cost, thus balancing "what we want with what we can".
This graph shows better the detail of how this investment planned for the viability of the project would be distributed.
In December last year we started writing the script and in this calendar you can see the plan for the whole year, with the idea of ending the entire creative process with the arrival of 2019. It's in your hands!
Rewards and Digital Premiere
During the months of November and December 2018, when we will close the final assembly, it will be time to send you the rewards for your contribution and trust in this project. Among them will be Premiere Digital, which will be ready for Christmas in 2018.
More Info
We will be updating our Facebook page "Alone with the sea" where we will thank you for your contributions, where we will show the advances in production and where you can consult us all you want. You can also leave comments on this page or contact us via the link below "Ask the author".
Finally, I would like to thank you for your confidence in this project, conceived with all the love of the world for nature and poetry, whose combination we hope will thrill you and make your imagination fly over the waves of the Mediterranean Sea.
