A CERTAIN WORLD TOUR... 60 YEARS LATER

This year marks the sixtieth anniversary of the extraordinary world tour by Leopoldo Tartarini and Giorgio Monetti. An epic journey across 5 continents, 35 countries and 4 revolutions.

We want to get the chance to show and share all the unpublished material of this journey. The two protagonists, faced the endeavour with a photo camera, a 16mm film camera and a pocket map of the world where a finger indicated thousands of kilometres.

The idea is to create an EXPLORER COLLECTION a book composed of more than 164 pages containing documents, letters, telegrams, newspaper articles of the time, incredible photos taken in the four corners of the world and everything that the two brought and sent home after this trip which lasted a year.

In addition to the book, the EXPLORER COLLECTION would also include the full version of the 16mm footage of 1957 restored and the movie 1 MAP for 2 also realized thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign in 2013.

The movie 1 MAP for 2 is the story of a journey which enters into the values ​​of friendship conveying memories, emotions, stories, music and images of a world that no longer exists.

An emblematic tale also of a philosophy of life, of a way of travelling that no longer exists: travelling not just to reach a destination in the shortest possible time, but simply to live the journey itself as an experience, where the goal is a secondary fact, only a pretext.

As we did in 2013 for the film, we would like to dedicate the EXPLORER COLLECTION to anyone who is passionate about travel, motorcycles, or just a dreamer like us. All those adults and kids, who love “the happy ending stories” ... and also to all the people who supported us during that campaign and they can do it this time too!

It's with the same spirit, to create the EXPLORER COLLECTION, we launch a new crowdfunding campaign.

It is certainly thanks to the support of the real and passionate people like you that the film came out in theatres on February 2014 had a huge success. It was selected in large and small national and international festivals, and when we had the chance, we attended the screenings with the special presence of the two protagonists Monetti and Tartarini (the latter unfortunately left us 2 years ago) as well as with the two motorcycles from the ‘57th trip.

Among the international festivals we attended: The New York Motorcycle Film Festival 2014, The Adventure Travel Film Festival - in London and Australia in 2016, Cinemas Sobre 2 Rodes - Barcelona 2017, Vintage Adventure Travel Film Series - New Zealand 2017 and many others.

The documentary has a limited duration and during the years of work involved in making and promoting the film, we came to know a lot of material that deserves to be made public!

The dozens of letters and correspondence telegrams between the two adventurers and their loved ones, tell about that way of travelling and living that special world of those young at that time, as well as the correspondence with Dr. Montano, the Ducati general manager of that time and a great and wise passionate travel wizard who followed the events of the two globetrotters with a singular affection at a distance.

One of his telegrams in a moment of difficulty said: "KEY WORD: KEEP STRONG" or even when the two were already close to coming back to Italy: "WHEN THE RACING HORSES SMELL THE ODOUR OF THEIR STABLES THEY GO INTO A FRENZY OF EAGERNESS NEIGHING WILDLY TO RETURN HOME, WE HEAR THAT GLORIOUS NEIGHING OF YOUR MOTORBIKES OVER THE SEA AND WE ARE PREPARING FOR YOUR MAGNIFICENT RETURN".

Unpublished and special testimonies of a world that no longer exists but whose taste remains in our hearts.

Our work will begin as soon as the campaign finishes and we will be ready to deliver our rewards no later than July 26th, the date when the two bikers returned to Italy for the first time after a year riding around the world. It was in fact July 26th, 1958. However, they will take another month before returning to the base because Ducati asked them to make an Italian Tour before coming back to their town.

ABOUT US

We are five people passionate about this story since we first came to know about it. It was 2011 and we decided at that time, to join our forces, to create first of all a film, entitled 1 MAP for 2, because that's what we know how to do it.

We are a group that has worked together for many years in the cinema and audiovisual field. Roberto Montanari and Danilo Caracciolo as directors, Andrea Dalpian as director of photography and post production video, Riccardo Nanni as music compositor and Giusi Santoro as editor and promotion and communication.

But we did not just limited to make a film, we really got attached to its special characters and we want to share this experience with you 'till the end.
