The French Reverie is my record tribute to the French piano repertoire of the 20th and 21st Centuries, which will be possible thanks to your collaboration.
The album is mainly based on a circular dream concept that explores some of the most important pieces by Messiaen, Dutilleux, Manoury and Escaich; contextualised and complemented with works by Djambazov (Bulgaria), Järventausta (Finland) and Ben-Amots (Israel/USA).
Repertoire
Thierry Escaich (b.1965) - Jeux de doubles (2001)
Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) - Prelude n.8 "Un reflet dans le vent" (1929)
Philippe Manoury (b.1952) - Toccata pour piano (1998)
Ofer Ben-Amots (b.1955) - Akëda (2000)
Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013) - Sonate pour piano (1946-1948)
I. Allegro con moto
II. Lied
III. Choral et Variations
Joel Järventausta (b.1995) - La vehemència del despertar (2016) - Comission
Vladimir Djambazov (b.1954) - 33:8 (1981/2016)
Who am I?
I'm a pianist and mathematician with a great passion for contemporary music. I'm currently studying for my Master of Music degree with Andrew Zolinsky at the Royal College of Music in London, after graduating from my Bachelor and Master piano studies with Jean-François Dichamp at ESMUC (Catalonia College of Music), and my Bachelor in Mathematics at UPC (Polytechnic University of Catalonia), all of them with several First-Class Honours.
I'm highly interested in research, and have written several articles and theses on topics such as the existing links between mathematics and music, folklore in music and the piano repertoire from the 20th and 21st centuries. In addition, I've worked with composers including Michael Finnissy, Thierry Escaich, Albert Sardà, Sergio Ramis, Pablo Carrascosa, Carlos Rojo and Lewis Coenen-Rowe; and premiered works by Vladimir Djambazov, David Lang, Ofer Ben-Amots, Joel Järventausta, Lara Poe, Stella Fiorenzoli, Dani López, Ákos Lustyik, Piyawat Louilarpprasert, Karim Younis and Benjamin Heim.
As a soloist, I've performed in Spain, France, Germany and the UK, and have appeared on the national television channel "France 3" and the Bulgarian National Radio. I've also performed with ensembles conducted by Timothy Lines, Thomas Foskett-Barnes and Matthew Hardy.
Over several years, I've had the privilege to participate in several masterclasses with professors such as Stanislav Pochekin, Mikhail Voskresensky, Felix Gottlieb, Konrad Elser, Boris Berman, Dmitri Alexeev, Hortense Cartier-Bresson, Michel Béroff, Marie-Josèphe Jude, Andrew Haigh, Albert Tarakanov, Natasa Sarcevic, Alba Ventura, Marcel Baudet, Antoine Françoise, Karst de Jong, Kennedy Moretti, Albert Attenelle and Nelly Ben-Or, among others.
Due to my training in other instruments, I've also engaged in multiple musical projects such as arranging music for the Swedish choir Köörmit, singing in choir festivals in Germany, France and Russia, and recording for bands from diverse musical genres.
Recently, I've been selected to join the Waterloo Region Contemporary Music Sessions 2017 in Canada, and have received a High Commendation from the jury (Mei Yi Foo and Tim Gill) for my performance at the RCM Contemporary Competition 2017.
Future projects include the premiere of several works by Lewis Coenen-Rowe, Sergio Ramis, Nino Russell, Bronwen McVeigh and Patrick McGraw.
How I will allocate your contributions
All the money collected during the campaign will be used to fund the following activities:
Recording session on a studio with a Steinway piano model D, editing and mastering.
Graphical design and manufacturing of 1000 copies of the album.
Legal paperwork, royalties and digital distribution at the main platforms.
All money collected beyond the financial objective will support the cost of a mini-tour to present my album at the homeland countries of the composers featured on it (France, Finland, Bulgaria, Israel and USA), besides Spain and the UK.
About the rewards
The rank of contributions to make The French Reverie possible goes from a minimum contribution of 10€ to a maximum of 500€. All of them are necessary, most welcome and have their own reward.
Once the project is finished, everyone who collaborated will receive the reward. All post expenses are included in the amounts, and the same applies to the traveling and meal expenses for those concerts in Spain or the UK. For concerts taking place in other countries, if the travel cost is larger than the contribution of the patron to the campaign, the difference will have to be paid (this amount will be shared among all patrons of a same country that collaborated on the same modality).
All the money collected will be charged when the campaign is over, as long as the financial objective has been achieved. If successful, I will personally contact each patron to settle the delivery of the corresponding reward.
Schedule
Once the financial objective is achieved, the project will proceed as follows:
August-September 2017: recording, editing and mastering.
October 2017: CD booklet design, CD manufacturing and legal paperwork.
November-December 2017: Presentation concerts of the album and distribution at the digital platforms.
