Story

In this road trip documentary shot by a group of young professionals of the seventh art (fiction and non-fiction), CRISTINA MANDARINA, a young Spanish skater, will lead us along the Ring Road, the road which goes all around Iceland. It is not only an adventure trip, but also an opportunity to use her passion for skate as a nexus between cultures. Her trip around this astonishingly beautiful island will lead her to meet plenty of locals, through whose eyes we will discover the culture and the natural beauty of this country of fire and ice.

Target

In Islands and Roll we aim to shoot audiovisual projects where adventure and sports unite in one same territory: an island. Being this our first project of the kind, we want to shoot it in a unique space: Iceland.

Our motivation is to support and give a voice to female skate and we believe that this project can be an inspiration for many skaters who are fighting their way up in such a masculine sport.

Our main character

I am Cristina Sánchez, but everyone knows me as ** Cristina Mandarina **. This nickname comes from a silly bet that I clearly missed. I had to put this nickname in all my social networks and as it was the time when I started to skate, everyone started to know me as Mandarina, so it ended up becoming my name.

I started skating at age 20. Even today is the best thing I've ever done in my life. I love the ** longboard **, although I've also been skateboarding for a couple of years ... well ... rather trying! Jajajaja I also try surfing, playing the piano, singing ... I do not know how to continue making good time in Barcelona! LOL.

Most girls I know, started skating for a love, a boy ... ** I started thanks to a girl, Esther, ** and I feel super proud of it. That is why I believe that this project has so much value, because it is the skate from the point of view of a woman who has chosen this sport for its own sake, not for another person.

In the skate world my two soul mates are Eider & Marta. With them I have shared millions of moments of all kinds: we made a video touring the United States, another touring half Spain and with Eider we made a video touring Israel. It's incredible the opportunities the skate world has given me, opportunities as incredible as this one I'm embarking on now!
 

Respect to my character I consider myself an extroverted person with a desire to live, too much desire to live, I can never say no to anything, and more if I plan a personal challenge! The bad, I do not think! I'm too impulsive and that has consequences.

Expectations for my future ... ** continue to be happy with few things ** and enjoy to the full with this project in Iceland !!!

The team

Islands and Roll is formed by young professionals of the audiovisual sector. It all started during a shooting while we were stugying in ESCAC and Bande à Part (Barcelona). We have experience working for companies such as Red Bull, Amnesty International or Vice, as well as in plenty of short films, documentaries and some feature films.

What will we use your collaborations for?

The project itself has a total cost of 7900€. We are aware of how difficult it is to get people to collaborate financially nowadays, but still we have to try, because we love this project and the opportunity of putting together our passion, skills and lifestyle.

We have decided to ask for a minimum of 4000€, which would cover the flights, the rental of the caravan and some sandwiches. However, we hope to get more than that and maybe even reach the total amount needed for shooting in Iceland and the post- production. Every extra penny we get will be used for:

• A better camera, lighting and sound material.

• Post production: editing, sound mix, color correction, the sound track.

• Distribution of the film. We want Islands and Roll - Iceland to reach the whole world!

• Some warm food. We would really be grateful about that and our grandmas surely as well!

If we get to 7900€ we will be able to rent the tools that will make a better looking film and create a more impressive visual experience with your help!
