Nult is a short film made as an end-of-degree project by five students at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. The story tells of those jealousies and insecurities resulting from the pressure of constantly reflecting oneself on others.
During childhood and adolescence friendships are crucial. Often they provide you with positive experiences and help you mature. However, at other times these same friendships can be poisonous, and can lead you to become attatched to another human being in an incomprehensible way, causing serious mental and in some cases physical damage.
In our project we want to capture this kind of toxic relationship that all too often can’t be avoided or escaped even though we know how detrimental they can be. As if they were part of an unconscious dependency, these relationships go in many cases beyond adolescence and stay perpetually.
We are Ferran, Inma, Maria, Irene and Montse, five students of Audiovisual Communication at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.
We have been working in Nult since June 2016, between Barcelona and Weimar, and after lots of group meetings, and a few arguments, here we are. Now we need your help to keep on moving forward. That’s why we would love that you also become an active part of Nult with your support. You can make our sad faces in the picture turn into smiles!
Clara Manyós is Nult, a 27 year-old girl, who likes better cats than dogs and better tea than coffee.
With her brain constantly active, all the time making up stories and judging people (for the better or for the worse), she’s an introverted person, quiet and not confident at all. Her best friend and flatmate is Bel, who has everything that Nult would love in life.
Clara Manyós graduated in Drama (Institut del Teatre, 2016) and in Journalism (UAB, 2011). She also has a long theatrical career with complementary studies of clown, dance and theatre of the gesture at El Col·legi del Teatre and El Timbal.
Berta Vidal plays the extroverted, social, successful and friendly Bel. She likes better dogs than cats and better coffee than tea.
She is very sociable, sceptical and enterprising. Her successful career doesn’t stop growing day after day. She loves to read. Her flat is full of books that she shares with her best friend Nult, although the relationship with her is not as stable as it used to be.
Berta Vidal graduated in Drama (Institut del Teatre, 2013). She has a long career in stage plays, word and music shows and in cinema. She has also studied music (piano, sax, modern and lyric singing).
The flat where the story takes place is in the Old Town of Vic. While Bel’s space is the outside world where she interacts with other people, Nult feels more comfortable indoors, at home, without having to interact with anyone. That's why the flat is so important and even behaves like a single character, the accomplice of Nult's secrets.
Your contributions are essential to make our short film real. The money that we get through Verkami will help us to cover part of the budget of the film, from pre-production (and shooting) to post-production and distribution. In brief, this is our budget breakdown:
We highly value your contributions, however small they may be. That's why we want to thank you with some representative gifts of the film such as totebags, badges or our poster:
In addition, with a €100 contribution you can also have a copy of an original artwork specially made for Nult. And with a single contribution of €300 you will get a double-pass for all the main concerts of the festival ELMINI in Olot, in its 2018 edition.
Shipping costs of rewards are included.
As a short film, the production schedule of Nult is quite reduced. This makes it easier to deliver the gifts/rewards not much later from the filming time. Right now, our plan is to concentrate our forces on pre-production (getting financial support, material...) so that we can shoot in early May, shortly after the end of this Verkami. After shooting, since the work to be done will be more distributed (post-production does not require so many hands), we will be able to dedicate ourselves to manage the rewards so that we are able to send them during the summer.
The premiere of Nult will be held in July 2017.
We are tutored by Gonzalo de Lucas, professor at Pompeu Fabra University and film programmer. Additionally we have the support of Aitor Martos (professor also at UPF and director of freelance productions) and Sergi Moreno (Lastor Media) on production issues.
Also, thanks to the University, we have the advice of outstanding filmmakers such as Isaki Lacuesta (La Propera Pell, 2016), Mar Coll (Tres Dies amb la Família, 2009), Elias León Siminiani (Mapa, 2013) or Jonás Trueba (Los Exiliados Románticos, 2015), who have been revising the script and following the steps of production with us.
Finally we want to say a massive thank you and we are eternally grateful for any support that we receive!
