We are XOGA and we are bringing for the first time a Galician opera to the UK!
"O Arame" is one of the few Galician operas ever written.
Our performance on the 10th of June 2017 in Oxford is an unprecedent event, not only a UK premier but also the first time a Galician opera is ever performed outside of Spain!
This performance project is born from our passion for promoting a minority language (Galician) as a vessel for artistic expression.
The Artists
We are very lucky to have an enthusiastic and multicultural team. At the core of our team we have two native Galicians Tamara Lorenzo Gabeiras (Music Director) and Lorena Paz Nieto (Soprano) in the female lead role.
Oxford born Cecilia Stinton is our Director and from Italy comes our choreographer Fran Mangiacasale.
The male lead role is performed by Northern Irish baritone Malachy Frame and Marysol Martin del Castillo from Granada is Fran's dance partner.
We would be thrilled if you join us for a psychological journey where humans explore, fear and accept life in all its essence.
The Project
"O Arame" is a one act opera written in Galician by composer Juan Durán and librettist Manuel Lourenzo. It combines different art forms including music, dance and visual arts. We will be performing it on the 10th of June 2017 at the Grove Auditorium of Magdalen College in Oxford in collaboration with The John Rutherford Centre for Galician Studies and with the help of the current lector in Galician Laura Blanco de la Barrera as production coordinator.
In the future, we aim to develop our work on this show further with the addition of a stage designer and a lighting designer to the team. We would also like to take it to London so we can continue bringing Galician language and culture closer to the UK and also to all those many Galicians living abroad.
Your support
We would be eternally grateful for your support! especially since we do not have a budget to pay the cast, musicians and creative team at the moment. We have secured our collaboration with the The John Rutherford Centre for Galician Studies at Oxford University and thanks to their kind generosity we are able to pay the hiring fee for the theatre.
Your support makes this UK premier possible and helps towards the advance of XOGA. In the long run this will not only benefit us, but also the future artists that we will engage to work with us and the audiences that will be introduced to new ways of experiencing opera.
If your support takes us over the pledged amount we will use the extra budget to bring the show to London. If we are very lucky, your support will enable us to develop "O Arame" further by adding a designer to the team.
Calendar
The funding campaign ends on the 11th of June 2017, a day after the performance in Oxford. Like this we are able to pay all the four members of the cast, fifteen musicians that will be onstage and the creative team.
All the physical rewards will be sent within one month after the performance.
