Anderearen sua, the Lady's fire

Who is the Lady? What is the Lady?

Documentary about the central axis of Basque Mythology, as well as the energy and main concept of the Basque worldview. The Lady is the great Creator; all beings and natural phenomena are subordinated to her. The main aspects of Basque Mythology are:

  • Naturist vision. The lady is the personification of nature

  • The animistic vision. In the Basque worldview, as is the case of all indigenous people, people lived in direct contact and in harmony with nature. All elements and natural phenomena have a soul and are connected to each other. Human beings are just another element of the whole.

  • The cult of mother earth, amalurra. Current celebrations are reminiscent of ancient pagan festivals in which the fertile cycles of Mother Earth were celebrated.

  • The importance and presence of women. The Lady is the mother of mother earth, of the moon and the sun, which in the Basque mythology is feminine.

  • Mari, the Lady of Anboto, Señoria, Amari, Anderea is the direct heiress of the cult of femininity, understood as fertility and giver of life. There are hypotheses that in ancient Europe there was a cult of the Mother Goddess in the Paleolithic, which extended into the Neolithic and disappeared with the invasion of the Indo-European people. In Basque mythology the myth of the Lady has continued to live in the collective Basque unconscious thanks to oral tradition. In the Middle Ages began the first written texts that tell tales and legends of the Basque Mythology, but it has been oral tradition that has kept these legends alive to this day.

The documentary "Anderearen sua" is a profound reflection of the Myth of the Lady through interviews of researchers of the Basque Mythology:

The interviews will be accompanied by music, theatre, poetry, painting, dance and rituals that will bring us through art to the energy of the Lady and to the ancestral rites, should we call them pagans that have lasted to this day.
