The concept of Sahbi arises for the most part from the experiences of a young Sahrawi that I had the opportunity to meet in Madrid. It is not a biographical work but more of introspection into the life of this person by whom I’ve been inspired.

The project is the new proposal by Firstworldcinema, an independent production company of short films and music videos focused in social awareness. Sahbi, to date is our most ambitious project. The short-film is the second of a trilogy that draws real life experiences from Lavapiés the very lively multicultural neighborhood in the center of Madrid. The first film titled Destins Croisés was self-financed and is available online for anyone wanting to see the first chapter of the series.

As we grow as a company artistically we also want to make enchance the quality of our product to maximize your viewing pleasure, that's why we turn to this funding outlet. Now, I’ll introduce our team!

His work always takes a peculiar look at the world. He strives for his work to have a social undertone, raising the issues that inspire with a special human approach.

Reparto

For this trip we have brought together actors with great experience and vitality that have been known to support new talent.

As the protagonist, Yslem Hijo del Desierto. The well-known Saharwi rapper has been defending and spreading the cause of his people for years in Spain and abroad. He has collaborated with minor roles in productions such as Destins Croisés and Baraka, where he has acquired some interpretive experience. He will debut with his first leading role giving life to Omar

Ana Otero, with a long career in theater, film and television, gives us her time and talent to play Lydia Frutos, the Spanish mother of Omar.

We are also accompanied on this trip by two Moroccan actors residing in Spain with more experience and talent, Ben Azhara and Said El Muaden.

My connection to the Saharawi people arises from having met and filmed several projects with Yslem. Through him I have gotten to know the struggle of his people and many other anonymous people who altruistically dedicate their effort and time to make the cause of the Saharawi people visible. On the trip to the refugee camps in Dajla (Algeria) in April 2015 (Festival Fisahara - edition XII) we filmed the video Universal Justice. The experience gave me the opportunity to check first-hand the living conditions in the Saharawi refugee camps. Our aim is to give voice to their cause in a novel and honest way, setting the scene in Madrid and in particular the neighborhood of Lavapies where the plot unfolds. It is also a look at the senselessness of violence as a vehicle for solving problems. In essence, Sahbi explores the vulnerability of the human being and how the pursuit of justice can unleash our most combative side.

About the recompensation

The idea of the project once completed is to send it to national and international festivals, but also to exhibit it in cultural and social centers, universities and institutes in Spain.

One of the aims of the project is to raise awareness and generate debate about the endless conflict in Western Sahara. In case the target is exceeded, the remaining funds would ensure a bit more working room.

Once all the phases of post-production have been completed we will announce the premiere and from that date the rewards will be delivered.

Calendar

The script is written and has been thoroughly studied by the cast, the film crew is prepared, the shooting locations have been hashed out and the technical material for the shooting chosen is waiting to be turned on.

Once Verkami's (40 days) campaign is completed with "success", the last steps will be made to finalize details, last rehearsals and in about 3 weeks we will be ready to shoot.

Then we will go to post-production that can last between 8 and 10 weeks. We will announce the date of release.

From the Sahbi team,

THANK YOU!
