The aim of the crowdfunding campaign is to finance partly the second album of Sambayá: O Norte do Norte (The North of the North)

Sambayá is the name of the musical project that Miguel Rubio started in 2007 with the idea of sharing the songs that he had been writing for some time. He formed a band and started to perform in Madrid’s club scene. After a few years of playing live all over Spain, in 2011 Sambayá recorded their first album,Sei Lá, produced by Josete Ordoñez (Eliseo Parra, Rosario…) and partially financed by micromecenas through the platform Verkami.com.

Right after Miguel moved to the Netherlands with the record under his arm and full of enthusiasm to promote the project in northern Europe, where it has been very warmly received.

In the Netherlands, he meets four great musicians that give the project a very interesting musical direction. After a few years of playing the clubs and festivals of northern Europe and with some brand new songs Sambayá has embarked on the adventure of recording what will be their second album.

What is the music proposal?

Nowadays the proposal is to find ways and musical colours to tell in the shape of a diary how we live and how we see our experiences. I like to think in the music that we do as a construction of moments to express or feel in an expansive manner our day to day life. That’s the way I see it, but please share with me how you see it, ok?

And well, in my case, because of my life experience and personal taste, a lot of the musical influences of the project are linked to the music from Brazil. In my point of view I find it to be the music of today, the past and the future, because it is a total blend and because it is really open. By the way, I sing in Portuguese!

In this record we will have the pleasure to collaborate with a number of guests that will enrich our music with their diverse background. They come from Turkey, Poland, South Corea, Slovakia…

¿When, where and with who?

This time we have relied on the expert hands of the Danish sound engineer Arne Bock (http://arnebockmusic.com). A big part of the album has been recorded this summer at E-Sound studios (Weesp, the Netherlands). Now we have to mix, master and fabricate it.

The cover design and concept of the album is being made by the illustrator Emma Andreetti (https://www.behance.net/emmandreetti).

If everything goes well and we get your support we will have the album in our hands by December.

¿What is the point of crowdfunding?

The musical industry as we knew it years ago has been falling as a sandcastle, and together with it a whole way of understanding and promoting the music..

In reality that way, apart from musical tastes, generated a pyramidal structure that made that very few, the ones known as great artists, would part with a huge portion and that many, generally the unknown musicians, would have to go through the twelve tasks of Asterix in order to survive with their music. Many are the things that we have to change in order to create a music circuit that really gives chances to original proposals.

We are again making a commitment to the crowdfunding because it is a realistic and constructive way of financing a project like ours that is independent, with everything that this entails. We commit to the crowdfunding with Verkami since for our first album we managed to achieve what we intended to do thanks to our beloved patrons that make us proud and full of albums.

What do we ask from you?

We ask you to choose one of the contributions to help us give a push to our project. All the contributions, from buying the cd to ask for a cover of a song, are most welcome.

Our goal is to get 2700 euros.

What will we do with your contributions?

We will use your contribution to finance part of the album.

The technical part of the album will cost 4400 euros approximately.

This money will be used to pay: the recording studio, the tuning of the grand piano and the sound technician who will record, mix and master the album.

After that the process of designing the album cover, visual contents, layout, pictures and crafting the physical album (500 units) will take place. This process will at least cost 1000 euros.

In total, 5400 euros aprox. We have paid half of it and now we need your support for paying the second half and make real 9 songs composed in Holland, O Norte do Norte (The North of the north).
