Hi! my name is Juan Manuel and I am the founder of Earwitness label. Growing up with sound and artistic creation marked the path to dedicate myself completely to working with sound in different fields.
This path led me to the University of Barcelona's Sound Art Master Programme, which I finished on 2016. For the final project, supervised by the artist Barbara Held, I decided to create this platform that is not just another music label, in my opinion. It has the goal of publishing albums based on phonographies (sound photographs) that reflect real life stories.
The mission of Earwitness is to spread the work of artists that explore through ambient recordings (let's say recordings outside a studio, in uncontrolled situations) different social issues. To offer realities and experiences captured on sound. Stories that could be about some particular cultural expression, a conflict, migration, a reconciliation, disease, identities, human progress...
What your contributions will be used for
Your contribution will be used for design, printing and distribution costs of the first CD. The distribution/sale of this work will allow us to gather the funds needed for the next CD and to continue with our mission.
About the rewards
The album that you are about to support is entitled Re-cor, is the latin root of the word "record" and means something like "going back to the heart". The title is a reference to the general content of the label, which focuses on recordings that connect with daily realities. Click here to listen and find out more.
This album wouldn't have been possible without the generous contribution of very talented artists who selflessly participated in the creation of this compilation:
Hanan Benammar, Jacob Kirkegard, Claudio Curciotti, Budhaditya Chattopadhyay, Christopher DeLaurenti, Jay-Dea Lopez, Patrick Hartono, Hein Schoer, Yin Yi, Eisuke Yanagisawa, Martin Kay y Daniel Goldaracena.
For the CD case, we are collaborating with L'Automatica. A typographic printing house at the city of Barcelona turned self-managed cultural association, L'Automatica brings together graphic designers, artists and illustrators in a recovered space for activating dialogue, workshops, printing projects, experimenting and learning.
Schedule
All the pre-production of the album 'Re-cor' has already been done, therefore the CD is expected to be ready on May when the crowdfunding campaign is finished.
The 'intimate concert' reward was thought for Barcelona and neighboring areas in mind. We'll take the opportunity to meet those who contributed and hand in the record personally. Date and time yet to be confirmed.
The rewards will be delivered during June.
