We would like to introduce you to arumakeәwa – Abuela Semilla ("Granma Seed"), a series of illustrated children tales which are part of a recovery process of environmental and cultural memory of the Ika native people of the Sierra Nevada (located in the North of Colombia) through their stories and ancestral words.
This project wishes to arouse a reflection towards caring and respecting our "Mother Nature". Appreciating their own culture is for the ika a way to remain, to continue as a native culture. Remaining is meant as development according to their world view. The ika are considered to be the Mother Earth's guardians.
Our campaign is thought to support the pre - production and audio - visual material of the artistic experience of the book arumakeәwa – Abuela Semilla, created in a participative way with children, youngsters and elderly people of Nabusimake, ika's people capital located among the Sierra Nevada mountains, through their traditional oral, written and graphic tales.
By supporting our campaign, you will contribute to the on - going building of a creative and communicative tool which links cultures and world views.
The book is considered as a bridge to transmit the ika's wisdom to the Western world (Younger Siblings), by communicating and spreading their message by their children and youngsters' voices, words and drawings, through ika ancestral legends, creative stories and oral tradition - known tales.
Why do we have to respect our Mother Nature?
How can we take care of her?
What can we do in our everyday life to honour her?
Does the Earth belong to us or do we belong to her?
Ika children and youngsters tell us, share with us and gift us their precious wisdom.
Transmitting values
"Arumake" (Granma) Carmen remembers ... at the beginning, all humans were IKA, some of them left the Sierra Nevada to share their creativity, but then they came back empty and longing for gold and wealth...we must transmit the origin's rules to the Younger Siblings in order to all live in harmony with our Mother...
The project yesterday and today
This work started in Nabusimake in 2013 during the preparation of the Ika Tradition Feast which has been celebrated for the last 32 years in August.
In 2014 we continue weaving, learning and sharing through art and culture: between August and September, two members of ANANSE will travel to the Sierra Nevada and will carry out some artistic workshops in Nabusimake with theatre, fine arts and storytelling tools to develop a collective creation.
The first phase of this creation will be a participative research with students of Nabusimake's local secondary and high school (Centro Indígena de Educación Diversificada Bunsingekun) towards a memory recovery of the native tales tradition through the wise elderly. In the second phase, the young workshops participants will draw the tales illustrations and will therefore create the book together.
What will be done thanks to your pledges
Luckily in Nabusimake there is no electric connection, so in order to work with electric/electronical tools, we will need to find some ways to do so, and maybe get some equipment to generate energy.
Fine arts materials and tools are very difficult to find, so we will need to take a lot with us to Nabusimake.
We will need to get some photo, video and graphics equipment, to be able to carry out the project.
Up until now, the project has been self - managed, so a small percentage of the pledges will be needed for materials' postal expenses around Colombia and for local transport in the Sierra Nevada.
We weave to remain
The ancestral tales children's book arumakeәwa – Abuela Semilla, is a vehicle that takes the Ika people thoughts and ideas throughout the world.
The first version will be digital with 3D animations and interactive material, as is the easiest format to spread around.
We also hope to be able to publish at some point a paper version of the book, but this will be part of another budget which is not included in this first campaign.

We weave with our friends when we write a greetings postcard with a positive message, with a pleasant, beautiful and charming image of a place, of a thought, of a memory that we wish to share with the person who receives one of our Eco-Postcards. Size 12x15 cm 4x1 colours. 4 postcards Pack .
We weave when we take part, a sticker identifies us as weavers of a new frame of mind and an harmonious way to live together with everything that surrounds us, all elements and beings. Our Eco-Sticker goes around the world on our friends and neighbours' notebooks, walls and books. Size 10x12 cm 4 colours. 5 Stickers Pack

We weave a story in our bags ... our thoughts are transmitted in the fabric, in the shapes, in the outlines and in the colour codes ... we weave while we think, we weave while we walk, we weave beautiful and positive wishes for the person who receives the bag we weave... The bag is a representative icon in the Ika people's world view, because it is where the thoughts, the hope and the vision are kept. It is a connector and vehicle. Our patrons will receive a bag as a symbol of this woven net which starts now. 1 Bag in 3 different sizes (10x8cm, 15x18cm, 20x25cm approx.)

About the rewards
The delivery of rewards which are objects (stickers, postcards, bags) will be done by internal national standard postal service in Colombia between the 8th and the 20th of September 2014, in Spain for the 25th to the 30th of September 2014 and in Italy in October 2014.
The rewards do not include postal charges to the rest of the world.
The delivery of the digital materials (which will be done by internet) will be from February 2015 after the official launching of the book.
