Why are we doing this crowdfunding campaign?

The goal of this campaign is to bring El tio que odiava els musicals, the Catalan adaptation of StarKid’s The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, to the stage at Teatre Gaudí in Barcelona — and to give it the quality it deserves.

A cult musical that has made its way from Off-Broadway to the West End, now in Catalan!

Synopsis

Everything seemed normal in our little nowhere town… until people started singing. Then they started dancing. And now, a musical pandemic is taking over the entire town.

It’s up to Pol — an ordinary guy who hates musicals — and his friends to stop this musical apocalypse and fight for the future of humanity.

Exclusive rewards

The main reward of this campaign is TICKETS TO SEE THE MUSICAL. Obviously. I mean… we’re a theatre company. What else were we supposed to sell?

And what’s the most VIP reward? Being one of the only 50 people who will be able to attend the premiere, exclusively reserved for backers.

You’ll also find prints, keychains, T-shirts and cups featuring designs by Rocío Rainvart.

Take a look at all the rewards: there are lots of them, and they’re all very different! If you have any questions, you can message us through the Verkami website or DM us at @eltioqueodiavaelsmusicals.

Who are we?

The production is by Les Biaix, a theatre company founded in 2021 with LIZZIE, a Catalan adaptation of the musical of the same name, which had two successful seasons in Barcelona. From the very beginning, the company has been committed to bringing musical theatre to Catalan audiences and making these stories available in our language.

Where do we come from?

El tio que odiava els musicals isn’t the first mess we’ve gotten ourselves into together.

Ten years ago, several of the professionals who are now part of this production had already worked together on a catalan adaptation of StarKid’s musical A very Potter musical called Un musical innominable.

The show is directed by Marina Schiaffino, with Sara López as musical director and Clara Casals in charge of choreography.

The cast includes Bernat Cot, Jaume Casals, Xavi Clapés, Gerard Portolés, Alba Grau, Anna Herebia, Joana Roselló, Laura Daza and Sebastià Vilà.

What will your contributions go towards?

Thanks to you, we’ll be able to take care of every detail of the production and make the show as good as it can be: better microphones, sets, costumes, wigs…

There are a lot of elements that go into putting on a musical and, unfortunately, they all come with a pretty hefty price tag. With your help, we can make sure this musical invasion reaches the stage the way it deserves to.

+Info

You’ll be able to collect your rewards in person on the same day you come to see the musical. For non-material rewards, we’ll get in touch with you privately to arrange everything.
