Museo Rijkrallpa, an exhibition of archaeological fiction

Museo Rijkrallpa is an interdisciplinary contemporary art exhibition that narrates an apocryphal myth of my own creation—Bili Sánchez Montenegro.

The pieces, inspired by pre-Hispanic Peruvian art and iconography, share principles of the Andean-Amazonian worldview to sow hope and sustainability among new generations.

With this crowdfunding campaign, I will be able to create 10 new artworks —along with their display cases and exhibition design— out of the 20 required for the** November 2026 exhibition at the Cultural Center of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in Lima**.

Museo Rijkrallpa projects itself as a movement that rescues and keeps alive artisanal techniques and ancestral knowledge, serving as a necessary tool for the times we are living in.

What makes MUSEO RIJKRALLPA unique?

Museo Rijkrallpa is where poetry and academic research come together and embraces archaeology, philosophy, anthropology, sustainability, and traditional craftsmanship. It's the beginning of a movement to reclaim ancestral knowledge that reconnects humanity to its capacity—and need—to create and believe in myths, thereby pursuing cultural identity.

It is based on the Andean-Amazonian worldview of pre-Columbian Peru, which highlights the relationship between the individual, their community, and the natural environment. It is structured around three discourses:

• Artistic: The project produces contemporary art pieces with an aesthetic faithful to the styles of pre-Hispanic and early colonial cultures, questioning their nature: fictitious or real? The pieces explore ancestral spirituality and its way of understanding the world in order to reflect on our relationship with the past and nature.

• Educational: Museo Rijkrallpa disseminates ancestral knowledge through its pieces, which are accompanied by information about the supposed place of origin, the artistic style and an interpretation aligned with current archaeological theories.

• Philosophical: the exhibition raises the issue of the genesis of a myth and its evolution through time, questioning, at the same time, the possible fictional and novelistic construction of reality today. At what point is reality interpreted and gives way to fiction? "Faith creates truth".

Why MUSEO RIJKRALLPA?

Great societies were built around shared stories, legends told by elders. Myths are not mere fantasies; they are concepts capable of creating identity, purpose, and culture.

We are living through an unprecedented technological revolution; Museo Rijkrallpa reminds us of the need to create humanity with our hands, starting from ancestral art and updating the knowledge of the Andean-Amazonian worldview based on the precept "the good of the other is my own good" so that we understand that not everything is competition, and adopt solidarity, respect for the environment and sustainability, which have been part of universal social history.

Ancestral knowledge doesn't just belong to the past; it contains lessons that help us build the future. All knowledge is the legacy of people who are no longer with us, and all our projects are for human beings who have yet to come.

Returning to the human and conscious transformation of raw materials is an important path of learning, communication, expressive freedom, and cultural identity, with the purpose of uniting us as a society. We know what divides us, what pits us against each other, but what bring us together?

The MUSEO RIJKRALLPA exhibition

The PUCP Cultural Center features a two-story exhibition gallery. On the first floor, Museo Rijkrallpa appears to be a formal exhibition of pre-Hispanic archaeology. It begins with an introductory space to inform visitors about the research into the Rijkrallpa Myth. Then, each piece of art, seemingly pre-Hispanic archaeological artifacts, is arranged according to the four dramatic moments of the Rijkrallpa myth: the hero's birth, his flight to the land of humans, his renunciation of his wings, and his death as a man. The Pre-Hispanic room concludes with a Huaca, a sacred site, where the Rijkrallpa Mummy and the Loom from the ancestral Paracas Necropolis culture are displayed.

The visitor will perceive the exhibition as an archaeological display about a true myth, since the pieces are inspired by iconography and developed with the aesthetics and artisan techniques of different ancient Peruvian cultures.

At the second floor there will be two spaces: the Hispanic Room which tells what happens with the myth of Rijkrallpa in the encounter of the native with the Spanish; and the Revelation Room, a videographic space intervention, where the visitor will witness seven personalities of national culture, answering questions about the creation of myths, faith and truth.

The visitor will feel the importance of building myths in the face of an increasingly polarized, technological and less human reality, myths that connect us to our essence, ancestry and identity.

Through this experience, visitors will develop an understanding that these pieces of ancestral art have the ability to move us and communicate important messages for our present time.

Impact and objectives

Museo Rijkrallpa is the beginning of a movement for the preservation of collective memory, ancestral knowledge, and creative freedom. Its cultural impact is defined by its objectives:

• Understanding the past as a source of knowledge for our present: updating ancestral knowledge to communicate precepts of the Andean-Amazonian worldview.

• Will merge us into a society of mutual support: the good of others is my own good.

• Sustainability: raise awareness that nature is not only a provider of resources, but a living and sacred being that gives us everything we need to exist if we are in harmony; recover respect for the conscious use of raw materials and their transformation by hand.

• To sow consciousness, purpose, and hope in young people.

• Unite humanity creating identity.

Your support will help preserve and keep alive ancestral techniques before they disappear, working with master artisans from all over Peru. Furthermore, it will inspire visitors, especially schoolchildren, university students, and families, strengthen cultural identity rooted in ancestral traditions, and demonstrate that art can transform lives.

Path

So far, it has been 29 years of research, more than half of my life, which have grown the project to its current point of maturity.

There are more than 20 pieces of art from Museo Rijkrallpa's collection and two video art pieces; I have the advice of renowned professionals in art and archaeology; I have held 6 exhibitions since 2008 and have received support from entities such as AECID and the Spanish Cultural Center in Lima, and the Roman Museum of Lausanne-Vidy in Switzerland. I am a member of the board of directors of the Rijkrallpa Association in Switzerland and the Participation and Culture Association in Lima.

I can affirm that Museo Rijkrallpa is more than an exhibition; it is the beginning of a movement that proposes an awareness and a starting point for future projects.

What will the contributions be used for?

Your contribution will allow us to produce 10 of the 20 new works of art needed for the exhibition this November at the Cultural Center of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), and for future exhibitions at the Rijkrallpa Museum. It will also cover the costs of museography and display cases for this exhibition.

The artworks planned to produce are divided into pre-Hispanic and 16th-century pieces:

Pre-Hispanic Pieces:

• Informative video about the myth of Rijkrallpa and its influence on different cultures in Peru.

• Chankillo’s Maquette.

• Ceramic musical instruments: a pair of sikus (arka and ira) from the Nazca culture with iconography related to death and winged beings.

• Two-Headed Serpent mural from the Alto Sechín culture, in high relief.

• Rijkrallpa loom from the Paracas Necropolis culture.

16th Century Pieces:

• Third Supplement in manuscript form of DYHDH in Old Quechua (document).

• Two narratives in manuscript form in the style of the chronicler Betanzos (documents).

• 3 restorations of idolatries with their accompanying documentation.

• 7 Hispanic Huacos (ceramic vessels).

• 1 Chachapoyas funerary bundle of the Last Priestess Rijkrallpa, with explanation in modern text.

• 2 khipus, pre-Hispanic instruments for accounting records, not yet deciphered for narrative contains. One is said to say in Quechua "faith creates truth" and the other "the good of the other is my own good"; accompanied by a 16th-century manuscript that supports this apocryphal translation.

With your support, you are not only funding an exhibition, but also building a legacy that values ​​ancestral knowledge that creates cultural identity by preserving shared knowledge and keeping alive traditional techniques of conscious transformation of raw materials.

What percentage of the budget does each component represent?

What if we exceed the financial goal?

If we manage to raise more funds than the established goal, we will be able to create more of the already designed artworks and, secondly, achieve the parallel projects: the translation of the exhibition into Quechua; and making it inclusive for blind children.

What if we don't reach the financial goal?

This crowdfunding campaign is all or nothing, meaning that if we don't reach the established financial goal, I won't have the resources for the production for the exhibition. In this case, Verkami would fully refund the contributions to the patrons.

• Nunaypa Pack: which consists of a 750g wholemeal sourdough loaf and 450g of fresh wholemeal egg pasta, made by Bili Sánchez Montenegro, and 2 sauces (parsley and tofu), by Anna Maresma Ribas. We carefully select the ingredients we use, such as 100% organic wholemeal stone-ground flour, water from Chuquitanta, salt from Maras, and olive oil from Yauca. This reward is valid only in Lima.

• Double-Headed Snake Brooch: made of sustainable 925 silver, also with 18K gold-plated, crafted by Peca Poetic Jewelry, with the hands of Bili Sánchez Montenegro and Anna Maresma Ribas, inspired by the iconography of Museo Rijkrallpa logo.

They are part of the Qhapaq Raymi collection, which we have been working on since 2017. Inspired by ancestral Andean ceremonies, the collection features coca leaves in sustainable 925 silver and fragments of natural spondylus shell, sacred elements in the Andean-Amazonian worldview. After the campaign ends, you can choose three pieces from a ring, pendant, earrings, or brooch, and the natural color of the shell (orange, red, or lilac). The photo is for reference only, as each piece is unique.

• Guided tour of the exhibition: Available in person or virtually, the tour will feature the author narrating the story of nearly thirty years of work, sharing anecdotes and key moments in the creation of the Rijkrallpa Myth. We will explore the various pieces of archaeological fiction and learn about their inspirations. Questions, inquiries, and discussions will be addressed. This tour is for small groups of project patrons. The tour schedule will be arranged after the campaign concludes.

• Wayra Collection of Huacos (ceramics): This work by the artist is inspired by a section of the poetry collection Rijkrallpa, which narrates an event parallel to the legend: Wayra is the woman who lost her partner at sea, and whom Rijkrallpa, due to his divine nature, could not save. Her life is told through this series of ceramic Huacos with metal embellishments. You can view the presentation dossier of the projected pieces here, and choose any of them or the whole collection. The pieces are handcrafted by master ceramists who keep ancestral techniques alive, and the metal pieces are crafted by the artist himself. Shipping costs are included for Peru and the Iberian Peninsula; for shipments outside these areas, an additional shipping fee will need to be added at the time of payment. Rewards can be delivered in person by the artist in Lima, at Museo Rijkrallpa exhibition.

If the campaign is successful, we will contact patrons for details and ask for their postal address for shipping.

However, if the campaign does not reach its funding goal, Verkami will refund patrons' contributions.

Projected Timeline

October 2026: Crowdfunding campaign closes and patrons are contacted. Production of artworks for the exhibition.

November 2026: Completion of artworks and production and installation of the exhibition. Rewards are then produced.

December 2026 and January 2027: The production of the rewards will be finalized and then delivered.

About Me and My Team

I'm Bili Sánchez Montenegro (Lima, 1974), an interdisciplinary artist whose work encompasses poetry, philosophy, and artistic jewelry. I've published five poetry collections and co-own the brand Peca Joyería Poética with Anna Maresma, which I sell between Barcelona and Lima. Nunaypa is my brand of sourdough bread and fresh pasta made with organic ingredients. I play Andean music and blues. Raising an 11-year-old girl is my greatest inspiration.

The team of advisors:

I have been working since the beginning -when Rijkrallpa was not yet a museum-, with Jorge Villacorta, independent art curator; Anna Maresma, life partner, is the artistic curator; and Sâm Ghavami and Ulla Holmquist are my archeology advisors.

The Future of the Project

Most crowdfunding campaigns end when the exhibition closes or the goal is reached, but with Museo Rijkrallpa, the journey is about to begin:

• On the one hand, achieving the parallel projects: translating the exhibition into Quechua; and making it inclusive for blind children.

• On the other hand, the touring of Museo Rijkrallpa is envisioned, with the aim of exhibiting it beyond Peru's geographical borders.

• Finally, it has two medium- and long-term projects in mind: Perú Tikay and Rijkrallpa Yachay Wasi. Perú Tikay is a journey through Peru where we will visit artisan workshops to document ancestral techniques and create new works alongside master artisans. We don't just want to preserve the heritage: we want to keep it alive. To this end, we aspire to create a school, Rijkrallpa Yachay Wasi, a space where applied arts, organic agriculture, and the Andean-Amazonian worldview will educate new generations. This project has a donated hectare of land in the Sacred Valley of Cusco, Peru, an ideal location because it will function as a retreat where school-aged teenagers can disconnect from the virtual world and learn from a land full of magic and history.

If Museo Rijkrallpa is my life project, Rijkrallpa Yachay Wasi is my death project.
