Seguir Cantando is an independent short film we are preparing to shoot in Madrid this summer. This Verkami campaign will help us secure a crucial part of the financing and give the shoot and post-production the care this story requires.

The project already has a solid production base, our own team, and a clear plan in motion, but we need this final push to cover essential costs such as cast and crew, production, locations, sound, post-production, and festival distribution.

Lucas has raised his daughter Sofía on his own. Together, they have built a life shaped by routines, games, songs, and small everyday rituals — held together by the bond between two people who have learned how to carry each other.

But when Lucas receives a serious diagnosis, the fragile balance he has worked so hard to build begins to fall apart.

How do you prepare a daughter for the possibility of loss without taking her childhood away too soon?

Seguir Cantando is a short film about cancer, fatherhood, and the need to protect joy even when the future is no longer guaranteed.

We don’t want to tell a story about illness. We want to tell a story about everyday love: the small gestures that hold a relationship together and that, sometimes without realizing it, become the most meaningful way of caring for someone.

Lucas is not a hero or a martyr. He is someone trying to let his daughter remain a child while carrying a fear he doesn’t know how to name. To us, that is far more compelling than any overstated drama.

This film speaks to something universal: the fear of not being there for the people we love.

And to something deeply specific: what we do with love when we can no longer guarantee the future.

Seguir Cantando was born from a desire to explore fatherhood from an unusual place: fragility. Not through heroism or epic sacrifice, but through the intimate fear that appears when someone depends entirely on our being there.

The film does not focus on illness as its central conflict, but on everything that happens around it: how the way you look at your daughter changes, how every gesture takes on a different weight when time is no longer something you can count on.

I want to observe that transformation with restraint, avoiding emotional overstatement and trusting the power of silences, glances, and small shared rituals.

The parallel between Sofia’s birth and Lucas’s possible absence is not meant to heighten the drama, but to remind us that every bond begins with a silent promise: TO BE THERE.

Between a first cry and the uncertainty of an operating room, the film traces an arc that is not about death, but about presence.

This is a story about how to keep living when fear moves in. About how to hold on to joy in the middle of uncertainty. About the conscious decision to keep singing, even when the future trembles.

The total budget of Seguir Cantando is higher than the goal of this campaign. We have already secured part of the financing through our own contributions and private support. However, we still need one key final piece in order to complete the project with the care and guarantees it deserves.

The €8,000 raised will go towards: cast and crew, production and logistics, art direction, wardrobe and makeup, on-set sound, original music, editing, colour grading, sound design, DCP, and festival distribution.

Every contribution brings us closer to shooting this story with the care it needs.
