ABOUT THE PROJECT
WHAT A STRANGE THING is a project that explores masculinity and the generational gap between fathers and sons. It examines how this gap is linked to aspects of the world that were once useful, but which, as the world has changed so much, have also changed the way men learn and feel useful.
This is exemplified by the relationship between a father and son who meet on their last day together before the son moves out. The father realizes all that he hasn't been able to teach him, how different his son has become. This difference awakens a fear or guilt about not having better prepared him for the world.
SYNOPSIS
Fernando, 48, and his son Eric, 23, are on their way to a fishing lake when their car breaks down. In an attempt to get Eric involved in the repairs, Fernando realizes his son has no idea what he's doing. Once the car is fixed, they continue on their way.
They arrive, park near the lake, and unpack all the fishing gear they'll need, with Fernando carrying most of it because Eric isn't strong enough. Once at the lake, they settle in, set up their tent, and Fernando shows Eric how to catch a fish. But in his attempt, Eric doesn't do it properly and ends up breaking the rod and losing the fish.
That evening, after dinner, Eric decides to ask about his father's obvious bad mood throughout the day. They talk about Eric's failed attempt at fishing, which brings to the surface Fernando's guilt for not having been able to teach his son his idea of what it means to be a man before he leaves home. Eric asks him to trust him and assures him that everything will be alright. They spend one last moment in silence, appreciating the sounds and sights of nature.

The remainder will be used for any additional equipment we may need for filming.
