Anant i Benín

Anant i Benín is an intercultural project aimed at promoting exchange and collaboration between catalan and beninese women artists.

The project is based on the performance Etcètera, a piece directed by Dora Cantero that we created as part of the final workshop of the fourth year at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, within the specializations of visual acting and scenography. After the premiere, the students decided to consolidate ourselves as a collective under the name Bikini Parc.

Etcètera is inspired by the book The Infinity of Lists by Umberto Eco and explores the human fascination with accumulation, classification, and repetition. Through objects and visual poetry, we address a universal theme: forgetting.

Several months after the premiere in Catalonia, Dayihoun-Théâtre (Cotonou, Benin) contacted us with the intention of including the performance in their program and opening their theatre to international proposals.

This initial contact evolved into the idea of an artistic residency in collaboration with Beninese artists to readapt the piece and create a scenic dialogue between European and African traditions.

Who are we?

Etcètera was created as part of the final fourth-year workshop at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, within the specializations of visual performance and scenography, and directed by Dora Cantero. A few months later, thanks to Elisa Echegaray (the workshop’s costume design teacher), Dayihoun-Théâtre got in touch with us to take part in the theatre’s second season.

This project aims to create a space for artistic dialogue and to readapt Etcètera together with local Beninese artists. For this reason, each area of the project brings together collaborators from both Catalonia and Benin. Currently, the team is composed of the following members:

Direction: Dora Cantero and Jöel Lokossou

Performance: Sophie Metinhoué, Ilarie Amah, Eulàlia Cortès, Anna Juclà, Júlia Sotmin, and one actress to be confirmed

Scenography: Anne-Marie Akploga, Laia Rodríguez, Mariona Valls, Clea Granados

Music: Julià Ruiz and one musician to be confirmed

Stage management: Sahada

Photographs of the performances (Barcelona and Cotonou)

What are they?

Two printed photographs: one from the performance premiered in Catalonia and one from the performance premiered and developed in Benin.

Printed on photographic paper, approximately A5 size. These images document two very different theatrical traditions within the same project: the European context and the African one.

Please note that we will not be able to reveal the final rewards until the project in Benin has been completed.

Postcards with texts from the performance

What are they?

A series of printed postcards featuring fragments from the dramatic text. Each postcard contains a meaningful sentence or excerpt from the piece.

Designed by the project’s creative team. Printed on thick cardstock, approximately postcard size.

Exclusivity: Texts specially selected for supporters. Not available in any other physical format.

Please note that we will not be able to reveal the final rewards until the project in Benin has been completed.

ETC Keychain

What is it?

A keychain specially designed for the Etcètera project.

Limited Edition Print

What is it?

An artistic print created by Eulàlia Cortés Ventosa, actress and creator of the performance. After the project in Benin is completed, Eulàlia will summarize the entire process by creating a unique print.

Features: Limited edition available only for supporters.

Original music from the performance

What is it?

Digital files with the original soundtrack of the project.

Exclusivity: Not available on digital platforms. The music for the performance will be created during the residency in Benin by Julià Ruiz Díez and a local artist to be confirmed.

What does it include?

Online meeting with the team

A private virtual session with the creators where we will talk about the process, answer questions, and share reflections.

What will your contributions be used for?

Every contribution directly helps us make this project a reality.

The funds will be used to cover the production costs necessary for the project to move forward. These expenses include flights and travel, as well as daily expenses during the working process.

Calendar

The artistic residency will begin on May 25 and will culminate with the premiere on June 18.

During this period we will develop the project and share it with audiences in three performances:

• Thursday, June 18 at 7:30 PM

• Friday, June 19 at 7:30 PM

• Saturday, June 20 at 8:00 PM

The return to Barcelona is planned for June 22.

Once we return, we will take about a month to produce the rewards, which will start to be sent at the end of July and the beginning of August, except for the rewards related to unpublished documentation, which will be shared in real time.
