Pellizco en la Nuca is a comic book drawn by José Manuel Hortelano and scripted by Manolo Dos. This is the Third issue of a total of four (stapled) volumes. Taking into account that publishers are not committed to the serial format, we have decided to self-publish our project with the help of Verkami.
In previous issues...
The vicissitudes of a messy life also have their rewards. Juan's work obligations have been happily interrupted after an unexpected episode of temporary alienation at work. John ends up sucking a citizen's thumb because of his inability to see things clearly. Meanwhile, Bobby and Angel decide to share a blank sheet of paper with no other fuel than their joint illusion. An illusion that Juan's inability to get to know the mysterious man he has taken into his house, whether he is called Jesse or Hombre, makes him slip through his fingers. The appearance of Adela, his ex-wife, seems destined to complicate things even further. For Adela will also succumb to Jesse's charm and prove to be more practical than Juan. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Juan expands his lungs and breathes in the fresh air of a new beginning. He goes for a walk and the reflections of a new enthusiasm soon appear.
Let's join him on this new delivery.
We want to reach our readers from the beginning and avoid a long wait in the drawer until we finish all the work. The protagonists of our story are eager to meet again with all those readers who have already begun to enjoy our project and who gave such a good response to the launch of the previous issues.
This third part consists of 52 pages in black and white and a full-colour cover. The format is 24x17 cm,offset printed and stapled.
History and origins
The Pellizco en la nuca project arose in the spring of 2018 when the cartoonist José Manuel Hortelano and the writer Manolo Dos decided to join forces to realise a long-cherished dream: to make a comic.
The harmony between the two is perfect from the beginning and can be summed up in two basic motivations:
The need to pay tribute to a great Spanish artist and cartoonist such as Rodrigo, whose ‘Manuel no está solo’ is the main inspiration for this ‘Pellizco en la nuca’.
The conviction that it is possible to tell a story starring gay characters who completely escape the usual stereotypes (something almost unheard of even nowadays).
Pellizco en la nuca is an everyday story that anyone can relate to. We have Juan, a man in his middle age, divorced and with a child already raised, who apparently has his life sorted out. He has a steady job and came out of the wardrobe years ago, but lives a life that is as simple as it is routine. Sex still seems to be something interesting and easy to get but Juan's existence calls for something more, some real emotion. That would be one of the great themes of this story, the need to find something that propels us to a new state away from a grey and predictable environment. Juan's life will be turned upside down in an unexpected way after the appearance of an enigmatic character, a strangely familiar beggar, and from then on things will start to move in a new direction, an uncertain direction but one that will confront him with his true desires and aspirations.
But let's not get pretentious, first and foremost Pellizco en la nuca is a story in instalments, with a fast pace, full of surprises and with great interest in exploring the beauty, eroticism and sensuality of masculinity in its maturity.
In this new issue we up the ante, new characters will appear, while Juan, our protagonist, will be a little bit more uninvolved, the eroticism raises the temperature and the intrigue continues to pinch the back of our necks in a bad way. You're going to like it, you're going to be surprised.
About the rewards
You will receive the comic at home, shipping costs included if you live in Spain.
If you live outside Spain we can also send it to you with the consequent increase in price for shipping costs (don't forget to select the corresponding extra option).
For those of you who want to collaborate with a little more money, we will send you an original drawing of one of the characters, ink or watercolour.
For those of you who still haven't got the first issue, we have created a special pack with the three issues.
On this occasion, we have something very special, our official key ring with the ‘Pinch on the back of the neck’ logo, something you've been asking for and that we will finally include in the rewards chapter.
For those of you who haven't got the first two issues yet, we have created a special pack with all three. Also, as a novelty, you will be able to buy the other two comics separately in case you are missing any of them.
Who we are
José Manuel Hortelano
(Murcia, 1979) is a painter and illustrator with a long career in different media (advertising, press, music, cinema, decoration, art galleries, etc...). Passionate about comics, Pellizco en la nuca is his first incursion in this field, something that has a lot of dream fulfilled.
Manolo Dos
(Castellón, 1973) has been trained in the field of fanzines and self-publishing. He has published articles on cinema in numerous magazines and writes pulp novels under a pseudonym. He likes the narrative nerve of popular genres and Pellizco en la nuca is his first experience as a comic scriptwriter. This spring he has just published his novel ‘Temores crecientes’ in the Minotauro imprint after being a finalist in the Minotauro Prize 2020.
And if you want to buy a pack with 5 copies to sell them in your bookshop or distribute them among your friends, check the corresponding reward.
