S'Illo Festival 2024. 11 years without institutional financial aid thanks to you!

WHERE/WHEN:

You will find us in the Sa Talaia space in Mallorcan town of Santanyí. The S’Illo Festival, like our town of Santanyí, is a familiar, charismatic and welcoming place. At the S’Illo Festival we welcome proposals from theater companies of all nationalities such as Spain, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Germany.

It is the leading independent festival which is made only with your financial help!

This year we will have the presence of important theater artists from Colombia (Eduard Mar, Lida Cardona), from the Community of Madrid (Nadie and Zía La Moraíta), Andalucía (Rocío Cuadrelli), Catalonia (Arnau Sanromà and Enric Marzà), as well as other recognized artists from the Balearic Islands, such as Bàrbara Nicolau Galmés. Thanks to your support we can offer them transportation, meals and accommodation in Can Timoner.

We also organize sociocultural days and give €500 to the winners of the “La Teta Premium” public award, in exchange for carrying out an activity of their choice.

Thanks to the management of services at the Teatro Principal de Santanyí by Tshock Cultura Emocional, we can carry out part of our programming at the theater, at the box office and altruistically in management, independently. This year we will be able to see different shows including GALA LITERAL, by Ernesto Artillo (August 24th, Màlaga).

Gala Literal is a piece composed entirely with testimonies by Antonio Gala. It explains how the vision of love evolves throughout your life. Between the theatrical and the performative. Ernesto Artillo brings the words to the stage showing their relevance. A cinematographic cast forms a kind of living altarpiece, in which all the images that Ernesto subsequently displays through the texts are collected.

Through Gala’s words, Ernesto not only tries to be infected by his lucidity and grace, but also to ask questions about the use of love itself: love as an idea or as an experience, as recognition from an anonymous public or as close correspondence. Love is the idea of love for work, for family, for animals, for strangers… Love with irony or literality.

With this work, Ernesto embodies and represents some of the tensions that determine the poet’s work.

It is also worth mention that on September 7 at the 08:00h pm in the Sa Talaia space the exhibition EXERCICIS DE CRUELTAT PER A INFANTS (by Arnau Sanromà and Enric Marzà) will be held.

In a chaotic and corrupt world, two twin siblings live hidden in a garden. Far from surrendering to the threat from outside, the children decide to practice a series of cruelty exercises to toughen themselves and prepare for the world that awaits them. The cruelty and latent violence of the environment where they live leads them to emulate the cruelty they see in it. With superior intelligence, they will be able to use any resource to survive within this garden.

The S’Illo Festival is due to our past, since it was born within an association that has now disappeared, without any type of institutional help and with more than 1200 members.

In the Can Timoner association we learned to self-manage and work with and for members.

Thanks for this fact of authenticity and the altruistic commitment of Tshock Cultura Emocional to maintain this reality in its 11 calls, the S’Illo Festival is an event of cultural resistance, which allows society to feel that is has a free place to express itself without conditions, to show your concerns and share them.

We are a committed and vindictive festival: in the sociocultural days, in each edition we like to contribute, help and improve problems, issues of our society.

This fact makes possible the interaction with great names in theater such as Jodorowsky, Arrabal, Mamen Ducati, Toni Gomila… who have understood how S’Illo makes sense when defending the love of art.

Whatever happens, whatever cultural politics say, patrons support us and know that this freedom of action is possible thanks to their contribution and participation.

HOW WE DO IT:

With the exhibition of Balearic, national and international shows and with the holding of free sociocultural days where theatrical events suitable for all audiences are organized. For example, in 2022 we discuss the topic “THE INTERVENTION OF THEATER WITHIN CURRENT SOCIETY” in 2021 we discuss “THE NEW NORMALITY” a result of the situation caused by COVID-19, and in 2020 we discuss spoke about “LGTBIFOBIA”. This year we will talk about emotions as a therapeutic tool.

From here we want to thank our viewers, patrons and artists and those of you who are reading about us for the first time for their support. Also to groups and platforms, to the Matacandelas Theater in Medellín (Colombia), to the Latin American Theater Corridor and to the Santiago Off Festival.. Thank you for your trust and artistic support one year more.

The S’Illo Festival, as is tradition, ends with the presentation of the S’Illo and La Teta Premium awards. The illo awards are for the best actor/actress, best playwright, and best direction. La Teta Premium is the best award for the best show of the festival. Both awards are chosen by the public. The winning show receives €500 and a work of art made by some Mallorcan artists, in exchange for carrying out an activity in the sociocultural days of the following year. Last year the winning show was “Cualquiera” (from the Nadie company).

EXPECTED SCHEDULE:

The S’Illo Festival programming begins on August 24 and ends on September 7, 2024. It concludes with the La Teta Premium awards gala in the month of December.
