“MÃE (identity, body, inheritance)” it's a project I've been developing for two years, that started with a documentary film and aims to be a scenic piece.
The documentary “Typical” (Típicas) collects the voice of four women that talk about their identity. These portraits have in common the theme of inheritance and the transmittance of acquired values throughout your life.
“Típicas” tells us about struggling women, artists, strong and powerful, daughters and simultaneously mothers. They talk about how their inheritance influences the construction of a personal identity and how it pronounces itself daily.
The work made with “Típicas” is the departing place for the scenic piece that aims to be a self-portrait. The most relevant thing for me at this moment is to have a new look on the documentary film and to find new angles that can reveal different themes that connect or relate to my personal history and biography, thus producing new materials or recovering some from the past.
“Mãe” (scenic project) aims to reflect on the idea that human´s personal identity is shaped by everything outside itself, by others and the alien, that the individual is not an isolated being and as such belong to a community, that the body is nothing but a collection of experiences gathered throughout life and that the people that accompany us on this journey are the ones that shape us into what we are.
WHAT DO WE NEED THE MONEY FOR
The money is mainly to pay the artistic crew and the promotion (video, web design, etc.). We have our own rehearsal space and the support of L'Antic Teatre for the opening, but we have no other mean of financial income, at the moment.
WHERE IS GOING TO OPEN
The show will open at L'Antic Teatre, in Barcelona, on December 6th and 7th.
