Chicharra FIS - Sound Research Festival is an international festival of sound art and sound research dedicated mainly to the dissemination of projects that work with science and technology.

The festival's objective is the promotion on

listening

presented through interdisciplinary research projects, focused on sound. The purpose is to generate knowledge about the importance of the sonic agency and its implications within society and the

environment, as well as to create thinking spaces to reflect from art, science and technology, around urgent topics of current interest.

The 2023 Chicharra FIS - Sound Research Festival edition takes as its theme, “The states of water”, focusing on the possible relationships between sound, space and water. It is dedicated to electroacoustic music, both purely acousmatic and mixed; live electronics; as well as sound art proposals whose creative process or aesthetic background has some relationship with water in all its states and manifestations. Also presents a sound-meditative space.

The festival counts with more than 25 activities scheduled for this editition and brings together around 50 invited and selected persons, including artists, scientists and water researchers coming around the world. In this first edition, workshops, conferences, sound and visual instalations, acousmatic and live music concerts, audiovisual and cinematographic projections, so as performance and participatory art exhibitions will take place.

This edition takes place at the Salvador Távora Theater in Almonte, a town in the province of Huelva, Spain. The theater is located inside the City of Culture, with a capacity of 512 seats. It has the support of the Almonte City Council and the Huelva Provincial Council, in addition to involving the local community in the projects that are developed.

Almonte is located in the Doñana Environment, a unique biome of incalculable organic importance. The Doñana National Park was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994, as an exceptional example of a large Mediterranean wetland where diverse ecosystems coexist providing shelter for a varied fauna. Doñana is the largest ecological reserve in Europe, located in the southwestern coastal region of Andalusia, between the Guadiamar, Guadalquivir and Tinto rivers, and the Atlantic Ocean.

Environment that invites you to weave bonds between art, biology and ecology**

Since the middle of the 20th century, issues related to water problems and the Doñana Area have acquired great complexity due to human activity and the climate crisis. Doñana has become another example of the dispute over water and territory that occurs throughout the world.

This edition of Chicharra FIS, focuses on awareness regarding the issue of water management, through art and the relation with nature from the local reality.

The festival dares to promote the decentralization of the experimental and academic activities, displaced from the big centers, without neglecting the traditional manifestations, as well as valuing the locality culture.
