CitySens Wall Planters: Colorful Circular & Social Design

With this campaign we want to turn surplus outdoor furniture fabrics into new wall planters with automatic watering system that fill our spaces with nature, while generating a high social impact.

We will partner with Portolà Foundation to collect surplus or small scraps of fabrics for outdoor furniture such as sofas, awnings or pergolas, and transform them into CitySens wall planters of a thousand colors.

We can even use advertising banners or other materials that are not being used in your workplace to make a new vertical garden for offices, schools or neighborhood communities!

Why is this project a needed?

With this new project we give value to unused quality materials. We promote the circular economy and the reduction of waste in the furniture and outdoor accessories industry.

We make and assemble the planters in collaboration with social work foundations, thus promoting the social and labor inclusion of people at risk of social exclusion. For this project, we work hand in hand with Portolà Foundation to make the fabric cover and with Pere Mata Foundation (Reus, Tarragona) for the assembly of the self-watering planter.

With this initiative we also want to promote more conscious consumption habits, in order to avoid wasting resources and energy. The benefits of this project are many:

• It gives a second life to quality fabrics that are not being used.

• It reduces waste from the outdoor furniture industry and other applications.

• It promotes the social and labor inclusion of people with disabilities.

• It creates products to enjoy plants indoors and outdoors.

• It transforms our spaces to make them more pleasant through plants: bedrooms, rooms, balconies, patios or terraces, without any limitation of space or time to take care of them.

• It improves our quality of life and our health thanks to the environmental benefits of plants.

Why do we need you to join this campaign?

Working with surpluses or scraps limits the number of units of each color that we can manufacture. For this reason, each color will be a limited edition and the orders will be on demand: once we know the meters of fabric available and the orders we receive, we will manufacture the products. This is a much more sustainable way of manufacturing: using available resources, without generating waste and in a fully customizable way.

This changes the way of buying we are all used to. Is this new, more social and sustainable system feasible? We are running this campaign because we want to validate this new circular and on-demand manufacturing system:

• We will manufacture limited editions, of the colors available at that time.

• The small-scale local manufacturing makes the sale price fair, although higher than the prices of mass-produced products.

• We will manufacture on demand, according to the availability of fabrics and the orders we receive. It will take about 60 days to deliver the final product to you.

• We will only sell the products through our website and trusted distributors. We will not be able to distribute them in many physical stores.

How do CitySens wall planters work?

The CitySens wall planter is a planter designed to create new plant-filled corners on any interior wall, balcony, patio or terrace.

Its design allows it to be hung very easily and combined in multiple ways to create small and large vertical gardens. Each combination is unique: we will encourage and help you create your own combination.

The CitySens wall planter is made up of an outer textile cover and a completely waterproof inner planter. Its completely waterproof design prevents the wall from getting wet.

The model with capillarity irrigation includes two pots: the inner pot where the plant is placed and the outer pot that serves as a water tank. Using a cotton string, the water passes from the tank to the plant due to capillarity. This system allows to space out the watering by about 30 days, depending on the type of plant, the size of it, the light and the temperature.

How can I hang the wall planter?

You can easily hang CitySens wall planters using any of these fastening components:

• Plugs and screws: it is the most cumbersome system for most, but at the same time it is the safest for any surface. Wall planters include plugs and screws.

• Hooks without nails: there are various systems, some suitable for smooth surfaces, others for wood or plasterboard. They are all compatible with CitySens wall planters.

• Cable ties: suitable for balconies and railings.

How does the crowdfunding campaign work?

Crowdfunding expert Valentí Acconcia defines it as a "collective collaboration consisting of the contribution of economic resources by many people to finance a project". In exchange for the contributions, a crowdfunding offers rewards.

Each contribution will have an exclusive reward limited to the patrons of this campaign. By participating in this campaign, you will receive a 30-40% discount on the final retail price of the product.

You will receive at home a pack of 3 wall planters in the color you choose + self-watering system by capillarity + three plants of your choice + the fastening components. You will receive at home a pack of 5 wall planters in the color you will choose + self-watering system by capillarity + three plants of your choice + the fastening components. You will choose the plants and the color of the planters once the campaign is over. Shipping costs included.

Contribution of €85

You will receive at home a pack of 3 wall pots in the color you choose + the fastening components + three plants of your choice. We will offer you hardy plants that need little watering. You will choose the plants and the color of the planters once the campaign is over. Shipping costs are not included, you can find them separately.

Contribution of €375

You will receive the pack of 15 wall planters in your home or workplace in the color you will choose. It also includes the self-watering system by capillarity. You will choose the color of the planters once the campaign is over. Shipping costs included

You will receive at home a wall planter in the color you will choose. It will also include self-watering system by capillarity, a plant of your choice and the fastening components. How can I choose the color of my wall planter?

Once you have participated in the campaign, we will send you a personalized email so that you can choose the color of your wall planter.

We will send the emails in order of participation in the campaign. Participate as soon as possible to get your favorite color!

Based on the orders we receive, we will organize manufacturing to produce the right amount of each color.

For this crowdfunding campaign we have selected 9 colors of outdoor fabric, plus the advertising banners.

The fabrics we have chosen to make the prototypes come from companies engaged in the production of outdoor furniture samples.

How can I choose my plants?

At CitySens we have more than 10 years of experience in the installation of plants in interior and exterior spaces, both at home and in work spaces.

When the crowdfunding campaign ends, we will contact you. Depending on the contribution you have made, we will ask you the appropriate questions in order to offer you various plant options suitable for your space and so that you can choose the one you like best.

When will I receive my wall planters?

These are the estimated manufactoring and shipping dates for our wall planters:

• June 21st: end of the campaign

• June 30th: collection of answers with the choice of colors and type of plants

• July and August: manufacturing of CitySens wall plantes at Fundació Portolà

• First half of September: delivery of CitySens wall planters by courier

• Second half of September: installation of CitySens wall planters in private homes and companies.

CitySens is a company born in 2015 in Tarragona.

The day-to-day activities of CitySens are led by F. Xavier Rius Ruiz, Irene Martín Rodríguez, Judit Escarrà Boqué, Francisco J. Andrade and F. Xavier Rius Ferrús.

We have started our adventure designing products to enjoy plants in the city, where there is usually not much space or time to enjoy them. CitySens products are vertical and modular designs, which take up little space and can be customized to fit the plants to your space. In addition, we help take care of the plants with automatic irrigation systems. We are experts in hydroponic irrigation, recircular irrigation, drip irrigation and capillary irrigation. We apply the most appropriate irrigation system according to the needs of each plant and the circumstances of the person who has to care for them.

At CitySens we manufacture with recycled plastic and reused materials. In addition, we make and assemble our products only in collaboration with social work foundations, thus promoting the social and labor inclusion of people with disabilities. Together, we promote the local economy and have a high social impact.
