After some years of musical silence, I now release two brand new albums. The one in English, Looking For A Place To Stay, musically follows the direction of my former band Mist (German music mag Rolling Stone described Mist as follows: dreamlike hymns that sometimes sound like Belle & Sebastian or The Divine Comedy).
The new album has 12 songs, about 45 minutes in total. A subtle mixture of indie pop guitars, all kinds of keyboards, bass, beats, some real drums and many vocal arrangements, recorded and mixed at my home studio.
Participating musicians are Alberto Montero, Antonio José Iglesias and Lourdes Casany (Triste y Gorda) from Spain, as well as Dutch multi-instrumentalists Mischa Porte, Léon Klaasse, Ivar Vermeulen (Mist) and Jeroen Luttikhuis (Mist). In February, the first single and video Relief was released on digital platforms. The second, more up-tempo The Best Of Your Days will see the light of day by the end of March.
Each song has its own picture. They can be seen on 12 different postcards that will be designed and printed especially for this campaign. These images represent places in the world, as the songs are a kind of journey through experiences and spaces – both internal as external – that are worth visiting. The design of this album is done by Vicente Balbastre. The cd comes in a nice 6-panel digipack that holds a booklet with the lyrics of all songs.
Here’s the first advance video Relief:
The other album Levensdrift (*zest for life*), will be officially released in autumn and has been written during the first lockdown in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. It’s a record with 10 songs in Dutch, with rather moody vibes. If you like Leonard Cohen or Sufjan Stevens, it could very well suit your musical taste.
The design is becoming beautiful and is made by Dutch graphic designer Sappho Panhuysen. The digipack (6-panel) holds a nice booklet with the lyrics of the songs. If you supporting me in order to receive this album, you will receive it several months before it’s official release, so this is kind of very exclusive.
Besides, if you fancy both cds as a reward (*duo pack*), it will turn out as a real bargain. And you’d make me even happier :-)
About the rewards
The campaign is mainly focused on the cds
CD 1: Looking For A Place To Stay
CD 2: Levensdrift
CD 1 + CD 2 - (*duo pack*)
However, there’s more. If you wish to support my new music through this campaign, but don’t want to have a cd in return, you can choose the 12 euro option of 12 postcards + digital download of 10 songs of one of both new albums. Other rewards offer more, such as a private online show, a live performance at your place (as soon as it’s possible again) or a full cd-pack in combination with my novel, for instance.
Rick’s musical carreer
Rick Treffers is a Dutch singer-songwriter, writer, producer and musician. He starts to release music in the 1990s with indie rockbands Girlfriend Misery and Miss Universe, that later turns into Mist: an indie pop group specialized in moody and melodic songs, with 5 albums and a few EPs. Mist receives great acclaim in Spain and tours across Europe, Mexico, Chile and Argentina.
In 2013, Treffers releases Ser español under the pseudonym of El Turista Optimista, a colourful and ironic album in Spanish about Spain and its culture.
Aftr the release of The Loop Of Love and Underwater, albums by Mist that he presents live with an ‘all-star band’ from Spanish Valencia, Treffers publishes a novel in Dutch about a musician on the bumpy road to success.
The new album Looking For A Place To Stay is released under Rick Treffers’ own name. ‘Mist has gone’ for two main reasons: there are more artists with the name Mist turning up, causing confusion on the internet and the singer-songwriter started performing in many different line-ups. In a way, you could say that Rick Treffers now makes a restart, signing with his own name.
What we do with the money
Your contributions will be used to pay for the manufacturing of the CDs (in a nice 6-panel digipack, full colour booklet inside), designing and printing the postcards, mastering* both albums in the studio of Alex Psaroudakis (New York), the graphic design and, if the campaign really goes well, a little bit of extra promotion (videoclips, radio airplay, online etc).
When it’s ready
The cds and the postcards will be ready by the end of April and sent to all contributors in May. If the situation in the world allows it, Rick will distribute the reward by himself, at least in Amsterdam and surroundings, Valencia, Castellón and Madrid.
I hope we will achieve it together. Thanks very much in advance and see you soon!
