We are now embarking on the physical journey of the musical concert-workshop that for 6 years has been thrilling and amusing people wherever it goes.
A BILINGUAL BOOK of 112 pages, in English on one side and Spanish on the other. It contains an expanded material and unpublished texts, as well as the lyrics for the songs that you can sing along with me :)
It also has some amazing illustrations by María Ella Carrera.
The USB drive will contain the narrations in both languages, 14 songs and many surrounding settings with multiple elements from the journey - and many surprises, too :)
And all of this interpreted by the one-woman-band Rowda BackBeat and led to harmony and excellence by the great producer Juan Delgado.
"Unique, fun, inspiring, didactically through music it awakens deep emotions within and leaves you with the feeling of joy, empathy, strength, and unity with others. An unforgettable experience."
- Secondary Students of the "El Valle" School
Ubuntu Blues is a journey to the roots of Blues music skillfully mixing real and imaginary. A moving journey walked hand in hand with Ubuntu: an inspiring African philosophy of life that invites us to think beyond ourselves.
The spiritual teachings of a white magic shaman in Malawi, the vital journey of an African girl, the heartfelt story and teachings of an endearing old man on a plantation in New Orleans, the indomitable spirit of righteous female warriors and pacifist heroes who have shown us the path to equality, respect, and freedom.
Ubuntu Blues is an invitation to make our own essence and that of others flourish. An invitation to take the ethical power capable of saving the world. An exciting epic journey with the most deeply human values as its powerful weapons of victory.
Ubuntu Blues is a project where music and literature, history and Blues, and the wisdom of Africa and education all converge in one.
For 6 years it has been a musical workshop that has thrilled and amused children, youths and adults. A workshop with the Blues and its African origins as the guiding thread.
Ubuntu Blues is, also, a letter addressed to problems derived from the feeling of inequality: prejudice, oppression, bullying,... A letter of invitation to critical thinking, to self-love, and of course, to the love for one another, since the whole trip goes hand in hand with Ubuntu: a traditional African concept that would be humanity towards others, because ...
"How can a person be happy, when others are not?"
About the rewards
I have prepared some rewards to thank you for your belief and trust in the project. They are organized in packs that consist of:
An illustrated book. Size: 11,7 x 8,3 inches (it's pretty big), 112 pages (half of which is in Spanish and the other half in English), printed on recycled paper and bound with a hardcover.
Ecological USB memory drive made of recycled cardboard, with all the material of Ubuntu Blues in audio, to help us develop the auditory channel -and therefore, concentration- which used to be much sharper because of the long lost oral tradition.
There will be 3 audio folders inside the USB drive:
- Narration in Spanish + interluded songs
- Narration in English + interluded songs
- Just the songs
A kazoo made out of natural bamboo, handcrafted by a family in Vietnam -fairtrade, of course-
Small jute bag to protect the USB drive and the kazoo.
Large jute bag to carry the whole "Ubuntu pack" inside and other gadgets you like - also for "on-the-go" shopping ;)
Singing thru Skype. You can choose 3 acoustic songs from the musical story. I can either sing them specially for you or if you wish, we can sing together and chat - in either Spanish or English - about the story (maximum 1 hour)
Ubuntu Blues concert-workshop adapted to different ages, where the musical story takes tremendous life when we share it, vibrate, sing, play and even if you like, dance TOGETHER. The show includes all the technical equipment (amplifiers and microphones) and also instrumental (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, drums, slide guitar, and kazoo ... even some small instruments for everyone to play along :)
How it was born
When I was little, I used to listen to cassettes of stories, where a singer-songwriter told you the tale, and also picked up his guitar and sang you a song. Without realizing it this could have been the first seed. It just took the germinating spark of a precious little story that came to me by email in 2012, about the Ubuntu concept, to trigger it. I felt the urge to make a creation to honor it ... and without expecting it, it ended up sewing all the different elements of my life and everything I wanted to spread. This is the alchemy that gave birth to Ubuntu Blues: a message that goes through several channels right into our hearts. Its intention is to filter this message through our reasoning and that we develop the ethical-playful character necessary for our world.
The journey of its upbringing has been and is a joy. Also beholding how it moves and endures wherever it goes. The emotions that it awakens in every inner child and its expression on the outside, are a precious gift.
Where will your contribuitions go?
Being a self-produced, self-published and self-managed project, the collected money will go to:
· Production and illustration work
· Book printing
· USB memory drive purchase and copies.
· Kazoos purchase
· Other rewards
· Screen printing
· Verkami platform and collecting fees
Please, if you have any difficulty making the payment with a credit card (totally safe payment), you can contact me and we will find a solution.
The production and illustration of the project are at the very last step of the process.
We estimate that in a maximum of one month we can send it to the companies to make the copies, both the book and the USB drive.
Therefore, your collaborations are necessary. Only then can we go from the "dream" onto the "mission accomplished" ;)
Once the campaign is over at the end of May we will immediately contact you. From that moment on, we will start producing all the rewards that you have requested so that you can enjoy them as soon as possible.
We estimate that you will receive your order by mid-July 2019 (approximately 40 days after the end of the campaign).
Although some of you may already know ...
Ubuntu Blues is my project-child. All the teachings, values, experiences, and the places I lived in are passed on through this musical-literary work on which I've been focusing my whole life for years.
With your help, I would love to be able to make this dream come true, and take this project into the ubuntian and ubuntian-to-be homes.
