What would you sacrifice 2 years of your life for?
The documentary 2 Years, 4 Months tells the story of 6 men who fought against compulsory military service. These 6 friends have one thing in common: They were all imprisoned for their refusal to conform to the military service and they all preferred to go to jail rather than to be part of the military. There were many reasons for their fight: pacifism, anarchism, nationalism or religious believes. All ldifferent, but they all demonstrated great courage and determination, so much so that they won the fight against the State.
Thanks to their fight, entire generations of men after them didn't have to comply with the compulsory military service ever again: they were free.
This antimilitarist movement in Spain turns 30 this year, those young men are now in their 50s and they look back at what happened in amazement, at what they did with such conviction, and also the fact that perhaps our country took for granted and never celebrated their feat.
But our protagonists don't only look back, and although all 6 have taken very different roads in life, they have all come together in their fight for a better world.
All this sounds like the tales from far back, but the rise of the extreme-right and warmongering in Europe makes this issue current again.
2 Years, 4 Months will be a 80 min documentary and the protagonists will be six men in their 50s who were once draft-dodgers. The film will have interviews, archive images, videos and documents, as well as the scenes we will shoot during San Fermin festival in Pamplona this year. These images will be complemented by exclusive footage of the demolition of the old prison in Pamplona where our protagonists were incarcerated.
