The dwarf king of “Dwarfen” has died without leaving a heir to the throne. The council of elders needs to elect a new king. The most important dwarf clans of the kingdom follow the call and arrive at the high court to conquer the crown and control the mountain. They do what they do best: brag about their successes and great deeds to win over the council of elders.
In King of the Hill, the dwarf throne, each player represents one of the dwarf clans fighting for power and glory. Each player needs to impress the members of the council of elders with their great deeds to gain their vote.
When the days of mourning come to an end whoever manages to unite the highest number of votes will receive the kingdom. This is the backstory of the game.
King Of The Hill is a board game for 2 to 5 players with simple rules, lots of player interaction, with an easy mechanism to allocate workers, bets and resources. The game will last between 30 and 75 minutes, depending on the number of players. Thanks to the simple setup, the game is quick and easy to start.
The recommended age of players for King of the Hill is 10 years or older.
It’s a great game to introduce players into the world of so called eurogames, because the simple mechanisms make for a steep learning curve that allows a clear understanding of the game in one or two turns. More advanced board game fans will recognise an easy eurogame with constant player interaction, through placing workers, using betting cards to win rewards and rune cards to ruin your rival plans. There is an additional possibility of using advanced rules for those who enjoy a more strategic setup involving calculations and estimates.
King of the Hill is the placed 1st in the Iluro 2015 prototype contest.

The objective is to gain more victory points (or votes) than any other player before the days of mourning (whose number corresponds with the number of players) are over. This points are gained through influencing the dwarf council using runes and adding points for great deeds to the score card.
Each player chooses one clan and takes all tokens of the clan colour, the clan cards and one score card. The council cards are evenly divided between the players (the number depends on the number of players). Then each player ads to his or her score card the scores for 4 great deeds, two clan resources and two additional resources to be chosen after seeing his council cards.
1. Distributing the dwarfs
Starting with the first player (the one with the longest beard, or, in the absence of beards, the smallest player) all players take turns adding their meeples to the board in clockwise order until all meeples have been placed.
There are sever places where players can allocate their dwarfs:
1- Places of great deeds: There are 5 places, one for each resources (war, metal, wisdom, gold and diplomacy) where players can bid for said resources against other players. The first and second bidder receive a reward.
2- Council of elders: Players can attain new council cards, or get rid of those the receive when adding any resources to their score card. Here everybody wins.
3- Runes: Each player bids for two runes during each turn. The winner is allowed to see both runes, keeping one. The second rune goes to the second bidder.
4- The bard: There are cereal different possible actions possible to change one deed for another or exchange them for more dwarfs. Depending on the bid the player can choose one of those actions.
2. Bidding phase
All cards are taken off the different resource locations and dwarf locations and all cards are placed face up into their respective places. The runes are placed into their place, face down.
The last player of this round takes the “last player token” and decides the order of resolving the round. The player decides the location of the bidding, solving the bidding and then choosing the next location.
In order to bid, every player chooses secretly one of their clan cards. All cards are shown at the same time, the highest card being the winner of the bid. In case of a draw, the player who first set a dwarf is the winner. The player use one card per meeple, which means that if there are two dwarfs of the same colour, the player needs to play two consecutive cards if possible. These cards won’t add up but the second card is worth +1. When winning a bid, the player ads the won resources to the score card, or keeps the dwarf cards and the runs in his hand. In case of the bard, each player moves his meeple during the action he would like to realise.
3. Bard phase
In this phase each player can play the bard action which allows him to gain new dwarfs, or to exchange resources, depending on the chosen action.
4. Influence phase
This is the last phase of any given round. The players take down their council cards, if they can. TO do this, they need to take remove the needed resources from the score card. The cards taken off the hand will later be part of the final count.
If a player still has cards in his hand he may keep those cards for subsequent rounds, paying any given resources to get the privilege of keeping the card, or he can discard them freely waiting to gain new cards in the next round.

Spiel Essen 2016
Verkami campaign until May 22nd. After this date we are going to finish the creative process like the dwarf cards, and some of the design features. Once the graphic details are finished, we will start the physical production of the game which may take between 8 and 12 weeks.
The estimated time of arrival of the game is October 2016.
Oriol Tutusaus: game designer. One half of orcajocs. History graduate with a longstanding passion for board games. He has participated in a variety of board game activities, both as participant, demonstrator or even regainer.
Adrià Càmara: co-designer. The other half of orcajocs. Programmer by day, father by heart and jack-of-all-trades by conviction, he’s always available. Together with Oriol, he has organised events, participated in some and missed out on even more.
Brian Deakin: The artist of the game. Illustrator and designer with experience in movies, television and video games. This is his first excursion into the world of board games.
