What is Constructing Albert?

Constructing Albert is a gastronomic documentary focusing on chef Albert Adrià.

The protagonist, brother of Ferran Adrià, is co-mastermind of the greatest gastronomic revolution in history, which started at elBulli.

Albert created concepts and techniques that have forever changed the way we eat and understand restaurants. And, despite it all, he has managed to avoid the media spotlight.

Between 2013 and 2015, Albert Adrià will open five restaurants, all completely different, cutting-edge and extremely creative, and all located in the same area of Barcelona, the Parallel.

Why did he refuse to become an associate of elBulli when it was the best restaurant in the world, and instead open a humble tapas bar?

Why doesn’t he simply reproduce the successful business model of the Tickets restaurant?

Why, after so many years, has he decided to take such a huge leap?

How will a rebel like Albert deal with this leap that will most likely lead to unprecedented fame?

How has being Ferran Adrià's brother, the best chef in history, influenced his life?

Albert is a person full of enigmas and our purpose is to uncover these mysteries throughout his transformative process in which he has gone from being "the most underrated chef in the world" (Fool Magazine) to be "the magician of the moment" (Time).

We want to understand Albert: the cook, the business man, and the person, showcasing his creativity, pragmatism, rebellion, talent and contradictions.

About Us

We are two independent production companies in Barcelona, Unto and Trueday Films.

  • Unto specialises in the creation of food-related content for film, events or online.

  • Trueday Films specialises in documentary cinema, with a long career including collaborations with the BBC and CNN.

We are a team of six working on this project; there are documentary filmmakers, communication and graphic image specialists, food writers and more.

Where will your money be used?

For a year and a half, the two producers involved in this project have operated without a budget, funding our efforts through our work.

Now, recently, Televisió de Catalunya has placed their trust in us.

But we still need more money to continue with the production: we have to cover costs that range from days of shooting and assembly sessions to post-production, among others. The overall budget is around €100.000.

And, of course, right now we don't have this amount of money :-)

Planning calendar

We plan to have the masters of the documentary in June 2015. But we can deliver 100% of some of the rewards earlier, starting in October 2014. Rewards such as the digital release of the film or name appearances in the credits will be delivered once the film is finished. And if the reward includes various options, it will be presented in two parts: in October and upon the film’s release.

    The estimate delivery cost for the tweezers is 8 AU$ and 18 AU$ for the book.

    Fueron inventadas y popularizadas durante la época de elBulli y de ahí el nombre.
