Amazon Alert (Alerta Amazónica) is specialized in making documentaries about environmental conflicts where indigenous peoples have collective leadership.
On this occasion, we want to make a documentary that reports on and promotes awareness of the fragile situation of the indigenous peoples Awajún, Achuar and Huampis whose territories have been overwhelmed by the oil companies for four decades.
In the northern Amazon of Peru a succession of oil spills and discharges of produced water (highly contaminated with heavy metals) has generated endemic pollution, causing profound environmental conflicts.
Obsolete infrastructures built 40 years ago, after exceeding their projected life cycles, suffer periodic breakage, spilling thousands of barrels into rivers and wetlands.
Recent accidents, which occurred on January 25 and February 3, 2016 in the provinces of Bagua and Morona, have poured more than 3,000 barrels of oil directly into the environment, affecting between 6,000 and 10,000 people, mostly indigenous.
The geographical isolation of environmental conflicts caused by the oil industry creates a situation of impunity for the operating corporations and vulnerability for affected people.
The documentary 'Tears of Oil' (Lágrimas de Aceite) aims:
To give voice to those affected and to reflect on the problems of the the oil infrastructure becoming opsolete.
To investigate in depth and publicize the subject of collective environmental health issues related to the oil industry.
To question the state and corporations on the scope of their environmental responsibility.
To report, through the role of the affected people, on the cruel situation of environmental impunity imposed in the Amazon.
Where will the project take place?
Filming will begin in Bagua, the epicenter of one of the bloodiest conflicts of the Amazon where in 2009 the Amazon Rising claimed at least 20 lives and where there are still missing and unsolved cases.
We will travel up the Chiriaco River, affected by the spill from the Norperuano Pipeline. We will check the condition of this infrastructure in different sections.
Our journey will then take us to the Andoas *station, also the scene of a history of oil spills and the mobilization of the **Awajún* and Huampis peoples.
We will conduct interviews with indigenous organizations and organisations of civil society in the region, as well as confronting power centers linked to the oil industry in Lima.
In addition we will take the opportunity to organize screenings in Peru of our previous documentaries, to socialize the experiences of other people affected by conflicts of gas in the Urubamba river - showing projects which were also funded through a campaign of collective financing on Verkami in 2012.
Schedule:
Filming: Peruvian Amazon, August- September 2016
Editing: Barcelona, October-December 2016
Distribution: During the filming short videos will be made in newscast format on the issue of oil as told by its protagonists, and these will be spread on social networks. In October, we will post the Teaser to present what will be the documentary, which we will try to release in January 2017. From that moment, it will be shown in festivals, screenings in open cultural centers, free internet broadcasting and by the distribution of copies to all Peruvian communities and social organizations that have collaborated in the project.
What your contributions will be allocated to:
The project needs at least 4,000 € to be created, this monmey is intended entirely for travel expenses to the affected areas (2,500 €) and filming and post-production of the documentary (1,500 €).
All the recording time and professional materials for the realization of thedocumentary are voluntary contributionjs from the Alerta Amazónica collective.

Salut!
