Hi everyone!

Dear readers, writers, photographers, illustrators, students, art institutes, editors:

We are preparing issue #2 of The AAAA Magazine, and launching the reissue of #1, which quickly sold out.

We are a young-minded, independent, and international quarterly. Our four A's stand for the disciplines that inspire us and that in our publication hybridize and merge together: Art, Architecture, Archaeology and Anthropology..

In order to maintain our independence from doctrines and trends, as well as to reach out further and further, crowd- funding and private sponsoring are essential. With your help we keep to the philosophy that drives us.

Architecture predates the architectural profession. Architecture is the voice of people and cultures. It’s inherent in human beings. Undetachable from art. Architecture offers shelter, warmth, happiness and sadness to its dwellers. Architecture is a human need, and the architect has the right tools to provide the community with such a service. Architecture speaks, exposing itself to the eyes of others but hiding a way of life behind the curtains. Architecture has a face, a character, as well as fears, dreams and taboos. Architecture holds life within, but needs inhabitants to make sense. Architecture needs man as much as man needs a humanist architecture.

AAAA aims at creating a huge network of organized young professionals worldwide, with visible practical results: the different publications. By contributing to our campaign, you will be part of this network from the start.

Who we are

AAAA is ten months old. Our magazine is entirely "made and directed by young professionals from all over the world*. Those of us who are responsible for this project **come from other international publications*, like Plataforma Arquitectura, Archdaily, Revista Internacional Arquine, Revista Código, Fundación Caja de Arquitectos, La Ciudad Viva, Revista URBS, Huffington Post, Pedacicos Arquitectónicos...

Besides this, we count on innumerable restless researchers, inquisitive people, passionate readers-contributors who send us their articles and thanks to whom AAAA is a worldwide network creator.

How we work and who we work with

From the editor to the authors, contributors and translators: AAAA is a rebellion that strives at revealing all the young talent that we have encountered in our adventures around the world: young, marvelous and free minds.

Usually, it is difficult for students and young degree-holders to have access to the editorial world as knowledge producers: Very few can claim to have published in reviews or in chapters of books. In most cases this is due to the fact that they do not receive the attention they deserve, and not because of a lack in quality. From this standpoint, the magazine's goal is to sneak into the university and into the art institutes and to become material that is consumed and produced by young people, filling in the gaps that the disciplines we look at leave behind.

From The AAAA Magazine, we encourage students, whom we feel are full of ideas and inquisitiveness, to become researchers and to express themselves, without worrying about being "criticized." We receive their texts and ideas, and take on the role of "tutors", by giving advice, reviewing the general structure of their texts and their vocabulary, and by constantly encouraging them to make their work their own. At AAAA we "are provocative" and we help people to take their first steps in the editorial world, both in its digital and its printed format, which are so important nowadays.

What we give

In our quarterly review , each issue" involves a concept that is approached freely by each author, and that is related to architecture from a personal context and standpoint: Hence, each issue has a title that is only one word, and the articles will try to explore Architecture (and Art, Archaeology and Anthropology) through the perspective of such a word. Inspired by that word, each issue will have its own theme, but this theme will be open to the interpretation of the contributors, which will help to build a small, but rich, monograph.

The next issue, #2, is called "HOUSE": home, a title that makes reference to a home or the lack of it, to nomadism, to the sense of ownership and to the implicit personality of each house beyond its walls.

The magazine is a bilingual English-Spanish publication, and it is produced on 100% recycled and ecological paper throughout the entire production process (here you can confirm the features and green certificates of our paper here).

Our financing

Financing through crowd-funding is important at the two levels we work at:

  • 1 International student network:This enables us to distribute our magazine throughout the world at the same cost. The texts that are written in one part of the world reach other students at other architecture schools on the other side of the planet.

  • 2 Institutions and Universities: Without their support, our work would make no sense. Thanks to this magazine and to their students, different universities and organizations create networks, reach agreements and can advertise themselves internationally in a very specific context, directly reaching those who keep them alive.

The network is thus set up at two levels: at a student level, as students become the full creators and directors of the project, and at a university level, establishing better communication and promotion of projects, thanks to the international role their students take on.

The idea is that this magazine, almost like the Little Radical Magazines did, be an easy and cheap way to spread knowledge and to become an active tool on the tables of architecture, art and design schools, universities and cultural institutions.

The more we are, the more copies can be printed and distributed, the cheaper production will be and the more institutions will be interested.

The more international we become, the easier it will be for all of us to get the magazine while at the same time a greater quality can be guaranteed.

Now is the time to choose how you want to get involved in AAAA

Our patrons

ALTRUISTIC: You offer unconditional support without expecting anything in return. You embody hope, strength and trust. You get involved in the process and are part of the project's success.

READER: You explore our articles in their digital format. You want to hold #2 in your hands -the first issue we launch internationally.

SYMPATHIZING READER: You not only show interest in our articles and in the subjects we address, but you also share a strong bond with our philosophy and see the world through our very eyes.

NEW READER: We have just become known to you, and you were unable to get our #1. To reissue it from scratch is quite an effort, but you can't help wanting it!

FAN: You are not only interested in our magazine and its content, but you are also interested in AAAA as a group of students and young people who share a certain view of the world, and you want to strengthen such a group.

CONTRIBUTOR: You value our magazine as a whole and you want to become involved beyond being a mere receptor: you want your contribution to improve its quality, to enhance its print run and to reach more places.

CONTRIBUTOR PLUS: like the "Contributor", you want to get involved and want to share this with someone else: that art institute you like, the University you work for, etc. Your donation will connect you up with them.

TOTAL CONTRIBUTOR: You want to give our project a boost, become part of it, and want your contribution to be known by using our magazine as a means to connect with multiple art institutes, libraries or universities. You are building the network with us.

PROMOTER: You know that this project has potential, that it brings together the talent of many young people from all over the world. You know that this magazine does not have geographical or language boundaries and you want to invest in this project.

FULL PROMOTER: You want to become part of this team during its very first year, no later! You want both #1 (which will be reissued exclusively for our patrons) and #2 in order to build a network with your favorite libraries, art institutes and universities. You choose them, we connect them.

DIGITAL PATRON: You want to travel with us on this journey and publish your work on our platforms. You like our digital publication because you believe in the democratization of the artistic production that the Internet provides.

PAPER PATRON: You are especially interested in our printed publication. You believe that communication is not only important for its content, but also for how it is composed, for its format and materiality, and for what printed matter has meant for the creation of cultural movements.

GLOBAL PATRON: You want to publicize yourself through us. You are interested both in our digital and our printed publications. You believe in the synergy that the combination of both means brings about, in the different ways in which content is produced and consumed, and in the need to work on both with the same kind of dedication.

ENTREPRENEUR: You want more, you want to create synergy. You know that by combining what we do with what you propose the repercussion of what we all do will be multiplied: You support us and in exchange you want... What? Contact us and let's talk!

Where your contributions will go

Thanks to you generous support, we will be able to cover the cost of materials, printing and distribution. At AAAA we do not make any money, we only prepare the field to reach further, to more homes, to more universities and architecture, art and design schools.

We have "globalized" prices in order to democratize our product. This means that mailing costs are the same worldwide, so that everyone may have an issue delivered to their door without any worries and at no extra cost.

If we raise more money than what we had planned in our budget, we will use that money to print more issues, because the more copies we print, the cheaper is the price per issue. With these benefits we will be able to send extra sets to bookstores and libraries throughout the world.

Your rewards

Besides magazines #1 and #2, you will be able to choose from a range of articles related to the world of publishing, such as postcards, posters, notebooks, etc. What is nice about these gifts is that they are all handmade and homemade* by members of AAAA in*ceramic workshops, printing workshops, binding workshops*, etc. We will share pictures of these workshops on our Facebook page.

For institutional level contributions, the rewards will have a more institutional spirit. For example, you may become a member of our team, add your name to our project, advertize in the magazine or on the website, donate issues under your name to important institutions, etc. You will build the network with us as an intermediary and enabler.

Foreseen timetable

The publication is ready in our computers: the magazines are in their digital format, so all it is needed is simply to print them and send them. In approximately 1 moth, all the rewards will be at our donors' doorsteps, since our budget includes international door- to- door delivery.
