"Roque" is the new Banni Leclerc´s shortfilm , a social theme project that will be held in support of ASPASI, Non-profit association for the Healing and Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse
From a personal standpoint, the most atrocious act that a human being is capable of is one of abuse and mistreatment of those who cannot protect themselves. I am especially affected when the victims are innocent children.
I have the need to tell a story about this topic through the medium of expression that moves and motivates me the most : cinema.
Making this short film is the best way I have to denounce something that should not exist in our society. I hope that in some way, the film can move the audience to consider the role and responsibility that we all have as individuals in the prevention of child abuse.
"Roque" is a story that addresses the emotional aspects of a sensitive topic. How does one overcome the usurpation of their innocence. Is forgiveness possible in these cases? Is revenge a justifiable means? Where does the problem come from? How does an abuser get into this miserable situation? Is he the only one responsible? How would I react if it happened to my child?
"Roque" is a story of redemption and forgiveness, an analysis of the serious impact and psychological consequences that individuals who have suffered abuse when they were minors carry for the rest of their lives.
We have the support of talented technicians and actors who bring their experience and skills in film-making.
Fernando Valdivielso will be portraying protagonist Roque (adult). From physical form to emotional expression, Fernando embodies the essence of this role perfectly. Formally trained at RESAD, he has built a career in film and television for more than a decade. His latest work can be referenced in serials such as "Las Chicas del Cable", "La Catedral del Mar", "La Que se Avecina", "Hospital Central", and "Anchored"; movies such as "The Broken Crown" and "El Idioma Imposible"; and award-winning short films such as "Lies" and "Dácil".
Portraying Roque as a child, Diego Bergmann's natural charisma brings an enigmatic quality with his performance. Diego has trained in interpretation and singing at the prestigious Victor Ullate Kirtan school, as well as at the Primera Toma school. He has been featured in advertising for brands such as Samsung and FAD, and in short films such as "Late Night Monster Marathon" and "Cocinitas".
Counted among the most charismatic actors in contemporary Spanish cinema, Miquel Insua masters the complexity of bringing the role of Don Braulio to life. Working profusely in cinema, television and theater since the mid-80s, Miquel has delivered one memorable performance after another such as in "Magical Girl" (2014), "The ABC's of death" (2012) , and "Diamond Flash"(2011). He is also recognized for his work in serials such as "The Simulators", "Family Doctor", "Journalists" and "Central Hospital".
Luisa Gavasa—one of the most celebrated actresses in Spanish cinema—will be acting in the role of Violeta, Roque's mother, from whose perspective the story is told. With a career spanning over forty years, Luisa is most known for her performances in high-profile films such as Paula Ortiz's "La Novia" for which she won the GOYA award for best supporting actress, Pedro Almodovar's "Entre Tinieblas", and Juio Medem's "El Árbol de la Sangre" just to name a few. Luisa can also be found in popular TV serials such as "Cuéntame Como Pasó", "Los Protegidos", "El Comisario" or "Farmacia de Guardia".

HOW ARE THE FUNDS TO BE USED?
20% of all income earned through this crowdfunding campaign will be donated to the non-profit organization ASPASI (Association for the Healing and Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse) that works at the national level supporting victims of abuse. Any donation received, from the smallest to the largest, has this percentage allocated to ASPASI.
We are fortunate to have the support of several supplier companies that are providing part of the camera equipment and lighting needed.
Funds from this campaign will help pay for:
- Cost of hiring cast and crew. We've been able to gather talented and skilled people who also believe in this project and they have agreed to sign on at well below their standard rates.
- Set props and wardrobe. Although the nature of the script doesn't require much in this department, we still aim to achieve the best in aesthetics and this is an area where a little detail goes a long way.
- Location and logistic fees. This also an area planned on a low budget, but there are still minimum requirements such as permits and licenses.
- Transportation costs. From equipment to people, all needs to be coordinated to transported to the right places at the right time.
- Catering. Gotta feed hard workers.
- Postproduction. Editing, grading, sound mixing.
- Distribution and marketing. Screenings at national and international festivals; copies and/or registration for distribution and exhibition.
