Our idea

The Colour of Delights is an art book in which the graphic work of the painter Saad Ali, conspires with the gastronomy of chef José Luis Mascaraque and the fantastic stories of writer and publisher Vicente Vercher. A creative triangle that will band together with the work of photographer Marga Ferrer to make the delight complete and get the images fill you with pleasant moments. An edition that La Rosella, a small independent publishing house, awarded by the Business Federation of Hospitality of Valencia with the prize for the best gastronomic publication in 2016, starts up with the idea that this book becomes an cult object.

About us

ART

Saad Ali was born in 1953 in Diwania, Iraq, studied in Florence and Perugia at the Academy of Fine Arts and then worked and exhibited for 12 years in Italy. In 1985 he moved to Holland, lived and worked in Utrecht and Amsterdam. In 1999 Saad Ali moved to Burgundy in France. He still maintains his studio in France but since 2004 he lives and works in Chiva, València.

Saad Ali became famous for his paintings full of passion and warm love that recalls the scenes of A Thousand and One Nights. A theme that returns a lot in his paintings is the Bab al-Faraj (the door of Hope), an ancient Arab symbol for the entrance to paradise. Perhaps for this reason, he often uses old doors and panels as a support for his paintings. He has exhibited in Italy, Holland, United Kingdom, Denmark, Belgium, Spain, Arab Emirates, Iraq, Portugal, Lebanon, France, Russia or Syria.

The professor of history, Federico Verdet Gómez, wrote about Saad Ali and expressed these words about his work: "Always evoking -with its colour, its symbolism and its theme-" the joy of living ". His work, product of a fruitful and long artistic career, knows how to maintain freshness, innocence, ingenuity and, inevitably, confidence in the human being. Sometimes, without any suspicion or fear, his characters allow us to participate in their joys and pleasures. Occasionally, the half-open windows invite us to spy -as a voyeur dazzled by the placidity and fullness with which our surprised glances are rewarded- a universe expressed in intimate scenes that should probably remain veiled to us. In all cases, we are irresistibly attracted by its beauty, the radiant and bright colours (delimited by a very firm drawing), in which the warm tones exert an absolute predominance, through which its poetic becomes perceptible ".

GASTRONOMY

With these words, "I cook for pleasure, passion and profession. I do not rest or settle, I'm always trying to improve in everything I do, seeking to be useful for others and persevere in the excellence of my work," José Luís Mascaraque, one of the best chefs who treasures the city of València. Born in Herencia, Ciudad Real, he is a a technical specialist from the Escuela Superior de Hostelería of Madrid and an expert in Coaching and NLP, since 2012.

He was a kitchen assistant at the Club 31 restaurant, as well as a kitchen assistant, chef and head chef in cuisine and patisserie at the Ritz Hotel in Madrid. Head chef at the Spanish restaurant of Harrod's Warehouses in London. When he returned to Spain, he worked as Head Chef at the Ritz Hotel in Madrid. He was Head Chef and one of the owners of the Viva-Mascaraque restaurant in the emblematic neighbourhood El Carmen in València. His career as a technical cooking adviser for several hotel companies, such as Grupo NH or Marina d'Or, is a guarantee, by his years of experience, to be one of the most important teachers and trainers of cuisine, in all areas, at the Tourism Centers of the Comunitat Valenciana. He currently is in charge of the concession of the restaurant of the Institut Valencià d'Art Modern (IVAM).

LITERATURE

My name is Vicente Vercher Castelló. When, in 2008, I created my first publishing house in Valencia, I had worked twenty years as an audiovisual scriptwriter, three more as an opinion writer in the Valencian press and three years as a professor of film script at the Jaume I University of Castellón. And among all this coming and going of letters, classes and students ... I had time to write a novel entitled El engaño, which I published in 2007 with a publisher that turned out to be one more of all those publishing houses operating in Spain that tend to treat bad their authors. This was the trigger that drove me to create the publishing house Obrabierta. The idea was very simple, help the writers to see their manuscripts published and attempt nothing would happen as it happened to me. Sometimes I got it and sometimes not so much, but in these ten years of experience as an editor going through three publishing houses, I came to publish more than 3000 titles, worked for 120 countries and put books in 8 languages on the market.

At present I direct La Rosella, a small publishing house with a marked independent character. My thoughts are put in creation and passion, which allows me to continue deluding myself every day with my work. In 2018 the City Council of València, edited my book De l'Horta al Plat, which details the benefits of 20 of the best products of the vegetable garden of València, accompanied by 40 recipes of eight representative cooks of our city.

The Color of Delights, directed by La Rosella editorial, arises from my friendship with the artist and the chef. Once presented one to another, excellent connections came up between them and we decided to start the creation of this book because we were convinced of the power that painting, gastronomy and literature can provide as the axis of a whole .

Scheduled timetable
