In Barcelona there are more than 3400 homeless people. 956 people sleep directly on the street, arround 400 in irregular settlements, 2,099 depend on existing public and private resources to spend the night indoors thanks to the support of NGOs such as Arrels Fundació. These are the latest data from the Network for Assistance to the Homeless in Barcelona.

OBJECTIVE: NO ONE SLEEPING ON THE STREET

WHY DO WE DO THIS CAMPAIGN AND HOW CAN YOU HELP?

The problem of housing access can affect us all. ESADE alumni is a committed community. With this campaign in collaboration with Arrels Fundació we want to contribute to alleviate the social problems of our environment. Among all we can find a roof for the homeless.

WHAT YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS WILL BE FOR?

With the money raised in this campaign, Arrels Fundació will be able to rent a flat in addition to those already managed, and *during one year it will offer a roof for 2 to 3 more people every night. *

CHANGE YOUR CARDBOARD FOR NIGHTS INDOORS

WHAT IS ARRELS FUNDACIÓ?

Arrels is a private institution, based in Barcelona since 1987, that helps homeless people to achieve a life as autonomous as possible. Currently manages 79 apartments and, despite the difficulty of finding rents at affordable prices, is still committed to providing decent housing under the HOUSING FIRST model, which has proven to be effective in recovering people excluded from the social system.

FIGURES

Since its creation, Arrels has served 11,521 people. In 2017 there were 1,913 people served, 50% more than five years ago. Arrels’ street teams have visited 428 homeless people and have managed to offer accommodation to 248 who were homeless, adding a total of 69,259 nights of accommodation.

HOW DO YOU GET TO LIVE ON THE STREET?

An individual does not end up in the street from one day to the other, his situation deteriorates with time. Nor is there a single cause. The reasons are many and varied: some depend on the individual and others have to do with the society in which we live. It is something that can happen to anyone.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO ERADICATE THE HOMELESS PHENOMENON?

It is very difficult to eradicate this problem and now even more because of the economic crisis, but it is feasible to reduce it as much as we can. To achieve this, the causes must first be addressed and social inequalities must be eliminated. Help us get them to leave their cardboards and sleep indoors.
