Séfer Barcelona: Jewish Book Festival
The meeting point of Literature and Jewish Philosophy.
Séfer Barcelona wants to be a "place to think", a place where prejudices are attenuated, understanding is stimulated and, in which decisively, entices thought and intellectual pursuit. A place in which the encounter of all forms of artistic expressions related to the Jewish culture in its diversity is propitiated. We want to make up for lost time and we want to make you part of this mission. We need you.
Mozaika
Mozaika is a non-profit association that is born from the desire to contribute to a better knowledge of the Jewish culture and to promote the relations between the community and the rest of society, to facilitate the exchange of concerns and to seek points of agreement that consolidates projects and common interests.
Since 2009 Mozaika has summoned writers, poets, philosophers, scientists, musicians, rabbis, playwrights, ready to discuss key issues of our times, always betting on a diverse and integrative vision of the Jewish identity. From day one we have worked hard to mitigate prejudices, stimulate curiosities, stir up speeches, disciplines and genres, navigate in our own and also foreign seas, and be the place where art and freedom promotes mutual knowledge, dialogue and peace.
After more than eight years of strenuous existence this is the first time we are forced to ask for help. We are at a critical stage in our development. That's why we knock on your door. We have taken this decision seeing that the second edition of "Sefer Barcelona: Jewish Book Festival" is in danger. That is why we invite you to get on the boat, a boat that will not lack showers and fun, and in which also - we are convinced - will not lack firm arms ready to row.
The impact of "Sefer Barcelona: Jewish Book Festival".
Séfer was born to silence the platitude into which, unintentionally, we see ourselves stranded. We bet for the printed letter and the reading in the unquestionable Empire of the fleeting thing. We want to regain the dialogue, the questioning and the encounter. Our main mission is to bring out the diversity and richness of contemporary Jewishness and Judaism, with the aim of fostering dialogue, mutual recognition and exchange.
Therefore, in the Sefer program, lectures will be held by local and foreign Jewish authors, but also by non-Jewish authors who have dealt with aspects related to Jewish history or culture, and even specialists, addressing different languages and cultures, with the willingness to discuss on issues of the past and the present in the light of all these subjectivities. Faced with such a broad content, the program has been built on different key aspects, such as identity, exile, memory or language. In this way, we not only present the cultural aspect under its concrete historical angle, but also give place to the debate from a current perspective, targeting all types of public.
Since 1917, Barcelona has had the first established Jewish community throughout the whole Spanish state since the expulsion in 1492. Therefore, as we approach the centenary of this renewed presence of Judaism in our city, we believe that making this culture known is not only a factor of normalization and integration of the Catalan Jews, but also an experience of collective enrichment.
