THE ARTIST
A few summers ago, Samantha de Siena, described as “a mixture between Beth Gibbons and Cat Power” (Butxaca) and likened to “Joanna Newsom’s dreamlike folk” (Time Out), set sail for Barcelona to follow her dreams of singing and writing music. There, amidst the magic of Barcelona’s old town, this singer-songwriter from London wrote her debut album, Here Inside (2010), which has received glowing reviews from many of Barcelona’s press and radio.
With her “beautifully unique voice” (El Periódico), Samantha de Siena combines folk, blues, jazz and punk into songs, both epic and delicate, which are capturing the hearts and minds of a rapidly growing, loyal fan base. Having performed live over the last two years, with her international band of talented musicians, she's now recording her second album.
THE PROJECT
Lifting the Veil, my second album, is a project very close to my heart, a journey i've been experiencing over the last few years and am excited to share with you!
Last year i began dreaming up the concept for this album and collecting together the different song ideas that came to me and these last few months i've been busy shaping the songs with the band, creating the team and organising production. We start recording with our new friend and producer, Suso Sáiz, on the 16th July and will continue throughout the summer.
THE STORY
Lifting the Veil is a direct translation of the Greek word, 'ἀποκάλυψις apokálypsis', which we know as 'apocalypse'. Although often used to describe the end of the world, an apocolypse is the disclosure of important truths, which were previously hidden from the majority of mankind, during an era dominated by falsehood and misconception. The Lifting of the Veil, or apocolypse, is therefore the end of illusion and a time of revelation and celebration.
This album is both a personal journey and a universal story, which i hope you'll enjoy, relate to and find inspiration from. Our tale begins with a girl and a boy, far away from themselves and trapped within the cruel pain of illusion. We follow their adventures as they begin to look beyond the veil and move into the unknown. What they discover on their journey forms the essence of this album and is shared with you through song.

Production
Lifting the Veil is being produced by Suso Sáiz.
Josep Baldomà is working on arrangements with myself and the musicians and Ricky Falkner and Darío Vuelta Frank are helping us with the recording sessions. Jordi Mora is working as our sound engineer and both mixing and mastering the album.

THE BUDGET
For over a year, i’ve been working to save money myself for this project and i'm now creating this campaign to raise the rest of the finances we’ll need to follow through with our plans. The €6,000 that we raise through Verkami will go towards the costs of the recording studio (to record the base of the album live), recording, producing, mixing and mastering the album. If, by luck, we raise more than €6,000, the extra money will be used to help us make a beautiful music video.

LA ARTISTA
Algunos veranos atrás, Samantha de Siena, descrita como “una mezcla entre Beth Gibbons y Cat Power” (Butxaca) y comparada al “folk onírico de Joanna Newsom” (Time Out), viajó a Barcelona para realizar sus sueños de cantar y componer música. Allí, entre la magia de la ciudad vieja de Barcelona, esta cantautora de Londres compuso su álbum debut, Here Inside (2010), que ha recibido brillantes críticas de diversos medios de radio y prensa de Barcelona.
Con su “voz sugerente y hermosamente extraña” (El Periódico), Samantha de Siena combina folk, blues, jazz y punk en canciones, tanto épicas como delicadas, que están capturando los corazones y las mentes de un creciente y leal grupo de fans. Habiendo tocado en vivo durante los dos últimos años, con su banda internacional de músicos talentosos, ahora esta grabando su segundo álbum.
El PROYECTO
Lifting the Veil, mi segundo álbum, es un proyecto muy cercano a mi corazón, un viaje que he estado viviendo durante los últimos años y que tengo ganas de compartir con vosotros!
El año pasado empecé a sonar el concepto para este álbum y juntando las diferentes canciones que me fueron viniendo, y estos últimos meses estuve desarrollando las canciones con la banda, creando el equipo y organizando la producción. Empezamos las grabaciones con nuestro nuevo padrino y productor, Suso Saiz, el 16 de Julio y continuaremos durante todo el verano.
LA HISTORIA
Lifting the Veil, 'Levantando el Velo', es una traducción directa de la palabra griega, 'ἀποκάλυψις apokálypsis', que conocemos como 'apocalipsis'. Aunque a menudo se utiliza para describir el fin del mundo, un apocalipsis es una revelación de verdades importantes, que habían estado ocultas a la mayoría de la humanidad, durante una era dominada por la falsedad y el entendimiento erróneo. El 'levantar el velo', o apocalipsis, es por esto el fin de la ilusión, y un tiempo de revelación y celebración.
Este álbum es ambos, un viaje que estoy viviendo yo, y una historia universal. Espero que lo disfrutéis, que os sintáis identificados y os inspire. Nuestra historia comienza con una chica y un chico, lejos de sí mismos y atrapados por el duro sufrimiento de la ilusión. Seguimos sus aventuras mientras comienzan a ver más allá del velo y se dirigen a lo desconocido. Lo que descubren en este viaje es la esencia de este álbum y es compartido con vosotros a través de la canción.

Josep Baldomà está trabajando en los arreglos conmigo y los músicos y Ricky Falkner y Darío Vuelta Frank nos ayudan con las sesiones de grabación. Jordi Mora es el técnico de sonido y va a mezclar y masterizar el álbum.

El PRESUPUESTO
He estado ahorrando el dinero de mas de un año de trabajo para este proyecto y ahora estoy creando esta campaña para juntar el resto de los fondos que necesitaremos para cumplir con nuestros planes. Los €6000 que juntemos a través de Verkami irán para ayudarnos con los costes de la grabación de estudio y los costes de producción, mezcla y masterización del álbum. Si tenemos suerte y juntamos más de €6000, el dinero extra será utilizado para ayudarnos a hacer un videoclip hermoso.
